*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

It's not a leak? A guy posts on the 5th of March information about 1.70 and every single part of it except the light bar dimming was included in today's announcement? Do you honestly think he just got lucky, or was he leaking things in a way without straight up saying it?

Also judging by his sig he works for a major company, he obviously works somewhere within Sony to have that kind of information so far in advance.

looks like he is legit, it's just that he worded everything very smartly so he was asking for them to be included rather than say they would be included.

judging by the post though you would never know he actually has insider info due to the wording.

Yep using the driver for the DS4 on your PC you can change the light bar colour or disable it, there's no reason at all why Sony can't dim/disable it, it's possible.

so they lied to everyone then? that's a pretty stupid move if so.

PlayStation 4 owners have turned to Twitter to ask Sony head Shuhei Yoshida whether an option to turn off the Dual Shock 4's lightbar will be implemented in future updates for the PS4. When asked, Yoshida simply said "no."

already posted about this above, they tried going down another route of it reflecting of their tv's, etc and sony just refuse to do anything about it.

I really don't see the fuss over the light bar, if it bothers people that much just tape over it, I bought a decal with the ps4 logo on it and it looks cool, my girlfriend even commented on how good it looks with it on

I quite like the lightbar. Love the light on top of the actual ps4 too

Problem is I own a high end panasonic plasma, the light reflects quite badly on it especially when playing in a darkly lit room. I didn't buy a reference quality tv to then have a glaring red light ruin the whole experience by shining off it.

I could tape it up but in the future if I want to use the light bar the controller would have sticky residue all over it, not something I'm really into, but whatever floats your boat.

Also those decals iirc the manufacturer states that once applied they shouldn't be taken off, or thats what I read on the ones I looked at on ebay.

Don't want to pull the ribbon out unless I know it can be easily put back in, that looks like the best option for me currently.

I shall wait a few months to see if sony's stance changes on the matter if it is indeed possible.

ah I can see your point, for me this is not a problem as I sit lower than my tv which is wall mounted, but I can see the glare would be annoying if you are level with the tv

if anyone is interested in a wireless gaming headset I posted a all in one solution for £60 in the official thread which is comparable to some high end sets by a manufacturer that in the past has sold IEM's for $7 which where better than $50 IEM's as well as a set of cans for $20 which were better than some at 3 times the price (they have also made some bad stuff too). they have also made some really cheap but very good sounding speakers, home cinema systems, etc too.

Monoprice they basically buy stuff from china from the same manufacturers as high end brands but repackaged and rebranded as their own budget brand.

The headphones I'm talking about look very familiar maybe you guys know what the originals are and what they normally sell for?

Would be great to identify them.

the original was intended to be a multi plat so makes sense.

the developers have probably seen that the PS4 is outselling the XB1 by a large margin and MS probably aren't willing to pay the asking price for exclusivity which would probably be a very large number due to the PS4 having many more units out there sot hey would like to be compensated for all those lost sales.

I'm actually amazed they haven't really acknowledged the issues with DS4 sticks peeling and cracking. Are people really happy to have to keep getting replacements for a £50 controller? Please don't start with the "I've used mine for 100 hours and it's fine", there are plenty of people with the problem for it to be an issue.

When you open your pad up to replace the thumbsticks, could you not disconnect/remove the light?

your getting a free replacement what is their to be unhappy about?

the only thing that peeves me is them not paying for postage and the fact they lost my controller when I sent it back.

I have now just bought replacements off ebay to fix myself in future (yes that is a bit crazy) but I had to do the same with my PS3 controllers (they lasted years of abuse though whereas these only last months).

another option is buy from argos, take back old one after 6 days for a refund.

My thumbsticks are currently fine, i have thumbsticks there as a backup option, the one controller that did have wear issues was replaced by sony.

if it happens again then i'll fix it myself.

it's an avenue i'm looking at but it depends on how easy the ribbon can be disconnected and re-attached.

last time i read somewhere that you had to cut wire(s), which i'm not willing to do, if it is a ribbon which unplugs and plugs back in though, that is something I would be willing to try out.

It's the hassle involved, it's a shoddy design and replacing a controller after one month, when I didn't have to replace a DS3 in 5 years is appalling. Now I'm using thumb grips which admittedly I think are better anyway but I've been told the rubber can still peel with those on (although I've not seen evidence myself yet).

On a plus, my inFMAOUs and FFX turned up today.

This is what the back of my DS4 looks like

The decal cost something like £3 for 3 off Ebay.

Thought the ambient light bar effects in TR were quite good, controller flickers yellow/red when you have a flaming torch equipped.

My sticks have worn but i have put in a lot of hours, the pad I had off MM is broke, left stick wont work in the 2 o'clock position but argos have agreed to replace it without having to take my console back :D

Sony are bad though for not owning up to design faults, We are trying to get my other halfs Xperia Z replaced due to a broken charging port but looking at google and what O2 say Sony won't do anything.
