*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

I suppose paying £10 - £20 more per game is okay compared to having to shell out £100's on new graphics cards and constant upgrades.

£350 and your sorted for 5+ years in comparison you could spend that much just on a graphics card no bother every 2-3 years.

I bought my 6970 over 3 years ago, still runs games at high settings and likely outperforms both consoles. Don't talk rubbish

I still won't be upgrading it for a while. Plus the bulk of my Steam games were under a tenner in sales. I love my PS4 and PC but I hate that nonsense argument from non PC gamers.

Had 3 crashes on ps4 this morning all whilst playing lego, weren't total lock ups though e.g could hear sound no pic or Thor got stuck in wall and then wouldn't load yet isn't a mark on the disc so can assume just I hit allot of game bugs, any one else had em?

Yeah, Lego Marvel has some really annoying bugs. Sometimes I need to restart, its a decent game though :)

I'm enjoying being back with sony ... Just some very minor issues ...

1) you know when it's tells you what trophy or what you been doing is there a way to change the name it says as at the moment it gives my name initials ... Most prob a simple way and it's me just being stupid

2) and the left thumb stick it keeps slipping off my thumb are there any grips or some thing like it around

Thanks

For grip checkout the Orb Thumbgrips, you get two sets, one is convex with grippy nobbles the other is concave.

The name you see is the name set on your profile.
To see go Settings - PSN - Account Information - Profile - Name.
You can see your proper name on your PSN but others will still see the PSN ID. You have to tell it to use your real name (if you want others to see it) as by default it wont. This wont affect what you see on screen so for example I see "My Name has earned the trophy xxxx" others will see "PSNI.D has earned trophy xxxx" which I gather is what you're after, proper name for you, PSN ID for friends.

I would wait until the ps4 exclusives start coming out in a year or so before you start comparing graphics to your 6970. PC games are designed to work on ten year old tech to the latest. PS4 is designed for one tech. Makes a difference.

PC Vs Console is never on the same level. They are different styles. Pound for pound though you are going to get better play out of a console than a pc.

Games are more pricy but then again I had never paid full wack for a PS3/4 game ever. I did however when I was high end pc gaming.

game prices on psn are too high, prices at game stores for ps4 are a bit steep as well. tomb raider is £40 Tesco, £44.99 psn and amazingly £44.99 at game. injustice gods amongst us is still £54.99 psn, game had the game for £48.99 Tesco didn't have it in stock.

seen knack in game exchange today for £25 second hand, marvel hero's was £32.99 , ps4 game prices will fall over the life of the console.

I've paid £30 onwards for pc games and I've paid £40 upwards for a ps4 game, but fully expect during this year to start paying £40 ish for new releases... console game prices aren't that much, heck I'd pay around £50 back in the day for a snes game

I agreed £55 for game is joke of price £35-£45 is a fair price, they don't even include a game manual these days they must be making a killing.

I wasn't really comparing PC and console. I'm fully aware of better performance on lesser hardware due to coding directly to the metal. I was really making a point that the idea PC gamers need to upgrade hardware every 2-3 years is bull :)

Nothing more, I fully expect 1st party games to outperform my 6970. Killzone already matches it more or less! if it doesn't I'd be annoyed! :p

I agree in a way, I had my 5870 for 4? years and it still ran most new games really well...Not maxed out of course but well.
I got the ps4 version of tomb raider and it looks mightly close to the pc version maxed out..some parts look even better. The only thing that cant compare is the fact i can run 4xEQ supersampling on the PC and still maintain over 60fps but the ps4 version is still mighty impressive. Its a beast of a machine. The only downside is the game prices which are crazy at the moment but im sure in time will be in the £40 region again.

I'm impressed with how quiet the PS4 is for an early revision, I had a launch PS3 (and 360 for that matter) and they were like jet engines compared to PS4.

It is silent ish... It can ramp up a little when Killzone got frantic, and Tomb Raider made mine sing only around an hour ago before it crashed to a blue screen with some number ending with a C asking me to submit to sony.

Calmed down after that, and I continued my game of tomb raider, first crash I've had, and first time I've heard my PS4 sound like a jet.

so, they do crash and they do ramp up in volume, but yes, agreed, they are generally silent machines. Mate has a X1 and that is whisper quiet mind.

How much did the rest of your PC cost, yeah thought so....... it's kind of expected that a PC that costs twice to three times as much will last at least a few years but there is no way it will last 6-10 years, you are going to have to upgrade your GPU at least once which is going to cost £200+.

Mine is mostly very quiet - the only issue I have is that for some reason when I start BF4 for the first time, the disk really makes a very loud 'grinding' noise for about 20 seconds but settles down after that and further disk access is quiet.

Doesn't do it with any other games, odd.

I've still got my Phat PS3 from 2008 and I guess I've been lucky, it always has been and still is completely silent. No problems from the hardware side of things either, upgraded it to a SSD about a year ago so I guess it's even cooler now. I guess part of it is that I do hoover the vents once a week as I clean my room so it keeps the fans clear, that should help regardless

Very disappointed with the PS4 controller. I've only used it a few days and the grip from the left stick has come off so my thumb just slides right over it. Also, my L1 button became sticky so I had to pop the button off and give it a clean.

I ordered some grips for the ps4 pad so that should solve the issue. Not very good quality at all though.
