*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

I'm actually tempted by the TLOU remastered. I got it originally on the PS3 but I think they might well bring out a patch for it when the PS4 Pro comes out in which case I will hold off playing it till November.

They are doing, I think it is just a 4K version though. I don't think they're doing anything for 1080p.

That PS4 deal is immense. Got £200 when I sold mine. Crazy

There's always a better deal around the corner.

Got it even cheaper for $10

Smyth's website collapsed under the strain.
However it appears everywhere is "firesale" on them.
I went to Rainforest in the end - 1TB Force Awakens pack for £179. Decided to add in their 3yr breakdown/accidental damage for £20, so £199 - cannot complain.
If you're after a PS4, £149 for a 500GB/Fifa17 is around at sites such as Tesco, Very....

Is the V2 controller any better? I notice a few places have controllers on sale, and I'm weighing up a black V2 vs a blue V1 and finding myself unconvinced that the V2 offers any worthwhile refinements.

Yes any questions?

LOL, it was more of a response to the post by satchef1. I didn't think anyone here had bought one yet.

So yes, is the Dualshock 4 v2 any better? :p Does it still use the same thumbsticks as the old one? Is the battery life any better? Do the triggers still squeak a bit?

So now I'm going to be an owner of a "phat" PS4 by the weekend. Do these do audio over HDMI or do I still require a digital audio cable.

I do, if you don't mind? How much quieter is it than the C chassis on idle and under load? Is the only difference to the new controller just the light bar shining through, or does it also feel/operate differently?

Thanks!

My old launch PS4 would ramp up when playing a game after an hour or 2 and something like Deux ex after an hour would be on full fan mode. My slim doesnt even seem to make a fan noise lol, never heard it spin up at all. Maybe I need to try uncharted 4 to make sure but so far its pretty silent apart from the normal drive noises. It does look quite a bit smaller, and does look better in the flesh, i also prefer the power and eject buttons being an actual butter rather than sneeze and switch it on like the original PS4. Its also allowed me to free up an Ethernet port as it can use 5G wifi and on my virgin 200meg on the test it can vary between 90 and 150 Mbps download, upload maxed out an around 12 which is about normal for Virgin.
The controller feels better but my two are launch ones before the slight improvement they made a year or so ago. The LED shining through the top isnt distracting at all for me and does make it easy to see what its doing. Another difference is that the controller will use the USB when connected to the PS4 via a cable to reduce latency, previously if you connected it via USB it would still connect via Bluetooth.

Official universal remote for the PS4.
I had the PS3 one and found it great, just so much nicer to use when viewing blueray, Prime video, etc.
Seems to be very mixed reviews on the PS4 version - At the rainforest there are as many 1 star reviews as there are 5 star.
Does anyone here have one - are they OK, do the job?
Are there any other remotes I can pair with a PS4 for easy media navigation?

I have a Harmony remote, it controls the PS4 too, as well as everything else.

If your TV uses HDMI-Cec then you can just use the TV remote.

Very helpful, I didn't know about the wifi either, thank you :)

Thanks for the remote suggestions. Just read that Sony don't allow any remote except their own to turn on the PS4 - so if you use anything other than the "official device" you need to turn it on first before using another remote. How silly.
