Thanks, I think I had the older version of that without the optical in. I guess one argument for the Astro is that it gives the option, you don't HAVE to have the Dolby surround emulation on. I think I'll try get a second hand one but also have a pure DAC/AMP as well.

It does not but this is done by the device, like your Astro Mixamp or alternative.

what would be interesting to see is if the astro mixamp using surround emulation (digital trickery) is better than a clean stereo sound on the fiio setup.

imo the fiio will hands down in a stereo vs stereo scenario.

will it win in a stereo vs emulated surround is anyones guess imo the quality of the fiio should be so with your choice of headphones that you can make out a difference between which is better.

pinpointing footsteps is all about how clear the sound is imo, as the footsteps get closer they should be getting louder, etc, etc. i think the way the game actually produces sounds will have a huge impact on this as well as what you choose. games which are coded poorly may result in the astro setup being superior, games coded correctly may result in the fiio setup being superior.

Yes it will be. I have gone for a desktop amp called a Maveric Audio Tube Magic D1, I've had to import though as you cannot get it from UK. PLenty of power for my headphones (got the 250 ohm).

SSD prices are pretty steep. The hybrid will give you some loading speed increases but not as much as an SSD. Is it worth it? Only you can know!

1TB hybrid is about £70. Worth it I reckon.

Thanks for the advice guys, I wasn't wanting more space really, I was wanting a speed increase. Ssd will be too expensive?

I can't find the post now (it must be in the last couple of days) but someone posted comparative loading times for standard, SSHD and SSD and the differences were not massive. Only seems worthwhile if you need a size upgrade anyway, in which case get an SSHD. The difference going from SSHD to SSD was a matter or 2-5 seconds only. Probably worth you looking at the last 6 pages as there is some discussion about it.

I doubt there is any danger of that game selling out but if you're there anyway may as well incase they only order a few in.

Lovefilm has changed, now amazon prime instant video. Must've been under a rock as didn't know it was changing over...

Says you can rent, or included with your amazon prime account. Seems the selection has increased - just hope the movie I watched was free and i've not just rented it lol

Planning on buying thief Friday, Is the stock of new games generally healthy? or is it best to pre order tomorrow whilst up that way?

I can't remember the last time there were actual stock shortages of a game. Even with GTA 5 there was plenty of stock. I wouldn't worry about it
