Yakuza is fantastic, can't see how anyone who likes games could hate the series. I probably still haven't played anything more entertaining. Even Angry Joe, who's a bit of a **** and who generally prefers Western games, praised 0 to hell and back.

I'd grab Kiwami myself as the sale price is a steal and I skipped it but I want it in Japanese so have to pass:p

You have sold me on it :)

So could you help me understand the structure a bit. So Zero is a prequel, kiwami is the original game remastered, I understand 2 is on the way and 6 has just been released. So I imagine playing 0,1, 2 then jumping to 6 won't feel Right?

Or is it structured say like final fantasy where each numbered game is it's own thing?

I'm leaning towards Yakuza now as well, interested to know which game I need to start with to get into the series. Now my time is nearing an end with GOW - man that was a good game deep down, need something else to grab me soon.

I hear 0 is good point to start. Though gameplay wise, going back essentially to an older game remastered (kiwami) afterwards may feel a bit odd. If that makes any sense at all :D

Yeah, 0 is a prequel and probably the best game in the series. It directly precedes what happens in Kiwami (about which you're right, it might not feel as good as 0 but it's still very good). A great place to start. The games are interconnected but 6 puts most of the classic characters in the background and focuses on Kiryu and Haruka, with some bits of Akiyama and Date and mere glimpses of Majima and Saejima. It also uses a new engine so it'll different, in some ways better but in some ways worse. It's also worse than Kiwami 2 which is a remake of Yakuza 2:p

Chronologically it would go 0, K1, K2 and 6 but K1 might feel like a stepback
from 0 (but not necessarily) and 6 might fell like a stepback from K2.
Going 0, K1, 6 and K2 might be the best option IMO. Two games on the old engine and two games on the new engine. Also, you don't need K2 that much to understand what happens in 6, the stories of both games are a bit more standalone.

I think you'll like 0, the series is very unique, fun and oldschool. Maybe just as charming and unique as Nier but more accessible and slightly less weird:p

Eh? They don't have the Japanese voice acting in the western release? I would want to play with Japanese voices but English subtitles.

Japanese voice acting is the only option in the Western release but I also want Japanese subs which can't be selected unfortunately:/

Thanks :) great post.

I have gone ahead and ordered a physical version of Yakuza zero. Thegamecollection currently have it for £20ish so if it's not for me I can sell it on rather than go digital and potentially lose out completely :D

Yeah, it's always better not to lose money, I regret getting some games digitally as well. I think you won't find it too bad, though:D

Drat. That was what I was hoping to do eventually - move on to full Japanese mode when I have learned enough. I only know a basic amount at the moment.

Yeah, it's a bummer, I don't quite get why they couldn't include the option to change the subs. I had to import 0 as I wanted to use it to practice before taking the JLPT, I also imported a used copy of 6 later.

:)

The story sounds like it's really good from reviews, it's just the quirky side stuff and over the top bits that may not be for me but I'm willing to have a good go!

The main story itself is a lot stronger than in many other mainstream games but the way the game balances serious themes with absolute hilarity and fun of the side content (which is plentiful) is on of its main appeals IMO:p But obviously everyone likes different things so you'll have to see how you get on:D

Can't get a black pro for love nor money. Apparently tesco no longer sell the item and they are out of stock at curry's, argos, game, smyths (unless you want to drive miles and miles to collect) and John Lewis. Amazon want £420 and it's a market place seller not amazon and I won't touch Ebay with a barge pole. Zavvi want £400 as they only sell a fifa bundle with extras that I'm not interested in.

I'm really struggling to believe that UK stock issues are simply as the result of the GoW release.

Are Sony winding down pro production overall?

It was hard work getting a pro yesterday. I went to game and part exchanged my PS4 500gb. I recieved 125 quid for it. Then they looked up to see if they had any in stock in their store to which they didn't except second hand. So they went to purchase me the god of war limited edition version online but was out of stock. All they had left was one destiny 2 console. They phoned a few stores nearby and their warehouse but they either didn't have any left or wasn't willing to send it to the store I was at. So after about 40 mins I said I'll take the destiny 2 console but when they went back to it, it was sold out. They called one more person and I was in luck they had a god of war limited edition console and they will send it to the store by Wednesday at the latest. Really good customer service I have to say, and a very happy customer.

Started Yakuza 0 this morning. Really great story set up and writing. I was expecting it to be super silly but it's actually really serious and I guess the quirky stuff balances that out later :)

My best guess is with E3 just around the corner they must have a new SKU in the works. It's the only thing that makes sense the!
