*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Started Yakuza 0 this morning. Really great story set up and writing. I was expecting it to be super silly but it's actually really serious and I guess the quirky stuff balances that out later :)

The stories in these games are always serious (bar a few sections here and there), I was referring to the somewhat bonkers side stuff, which you're never forced to do much of. However, you'll lose a lot by not doing it and miss out on many hilarious scenes:) Without spoiling anything, this game is a lot bigger than you might initially expect and a lot of the content that can even reward you with new abilities/interesting stuff is purely optional.

Personally, I couldn't get through any of these games without diving into at least karaoke, Sega Arcade, fishing, completing substories and drinking/eating everything there is to eat:D
There's a lot more, including two very big substories with special rewards but you're rarely forced into anything:)

It was hard work getting a pro yesterday. I went to game and part exchanged my PS4 500gb. I recieved 125 quid for it. Then they looked up to see if they had any in stock in their store to which they didn't except second hand. So they went to purchase me the god of war limited edition version online but was out of stock. All they had left was one destiny 2 console. They phoned a few stores nearby and their warehouse but they either didn't have any left or wasn't willing to send it to the store I was at. So after about 40 mins I said I'll take the destiny 2 console but when they went back to it, it was sold out. They called one more person and I was in luck they had a god of war limited edition console and they will send it to the store by Wednesday at the latest. Really good customer service I have to say, and a very happy customer.

Just hope it doesn't break ;p. Personally I had terrible CS from game for a broken xbox and wouldn't shop there again.

Does anyone find their ps4 pro pretty loud? Mine was loud when playing HZDAWN but luckily thats finished now and doesn't seem as bad when I'm playing uncharted 4

Saying that I remember similar with my brothers ps4 console on last of us so guess it's just standard when it's under load? ?

I'm certainly not going to ignore this stuff! The karaoke during the early story section was good fun :)
Want to get in the Sega arcade but I can't yet so I guess as I progress the story I'll get more time to explore this stuff

Yes, everything will get unlocked as you play, some new areas, people, substories/activities etc.:) It's nicely done because they introduce new content in reasonable increments so that the game doesn't get stale and there's always something new in each subsequent chapter.

Great thanks :) just reached chapter 2

Had exactly the same recently - couldn't get a Black Pro for love nor money, few places had the white model in stock and even they've sold out now. A quick browse of John Lewis online and they seem to be sold out of PS4 entirely. I had to go with a slim from Tesco in the end and used up a load of clubcard points, but if the Pro comes into stock again in the next couple of weeks, I might exchange the slim.

Seems strange for Sony to stop production with E3 6 weeks away, when PS4s are still selling very well. Thinking back to when the OG PS4 finished, they just sold the remaining stock in stores off at ~£180 to get rid of what was left - can't help but think they could have taken the sales now and then just cleared the remainder prior to E3....

Assuming of course that there is a new SKU and it's not some kind of manufacturing/parts availability issue...

What makes you think they have stopped production?
Unexpected demand and your stocks will dry up.

It was just an assumption, assuming that there is a new SKU coming out. Equally, as I said originally, it might be a shortage of parts or as you've suggested, just high demand.

Guess we will know if there is a new SKU come June :)

With PS5 slated for being 2-3 years away, any slow down in production of PS4/Pro would be silly. Sales might be slowing, but they certainly haven't stopped.
But yer, if a new SKU is appearing then maybe we're waiting to clear the current stock first. Who knows, if the new SKU is a unit that is made significantly cheaper, we could be looking at a discount on the base price.

I would guess that retailers in the UK don't really hold a lot of stock of the Pro, and with God of War coming out it caused a temporary shortage because of XBox owners jumping ship? Americans don't seem to have bother getting them. I really don't see a third iteration of the 4..

Had to replace my PS4 after screwing up the HDMI port, i went for the slim model and wow cant believe how quiet this thing is compared to my OG one, the only thing thats annoying is the lack of a SPDIF port, have ordered a HDMI/SPDIF converter.

Now it's just a case of redownloading all my digital games, this time i will save them on an external drive ;)

I also just got a slim, I never owned the OG one though I'm new to PS4 and really happy with the noise and size of it.

Has anyone on this thread come from an Xbox One S or have both? I'm thinking of getting a PS4 as the Xbox has been crap for decent games. Quite a lot for PS4 that interests me. Is it still worth buying a Slim? How does the controller compare etc?

Thanks :)

From what i read on some other forums, there are a lot of people that are trying to get their hands on PS4/PS4-Pro's that are under v4.55 Firmware from the factory due to reasons that cannot be discussed here, then flogging them on at an inflated price or stock-pilling them to sell on, which could also be impacting current stock levels as batches are being purchased and then returned if they are not on the firmware that is expected/needed.

I owned a Xbox One on release then got rid of it. I'm a PC gamer and have a fairly decent PC, but just bought a PS4 Slim and love it. The exclusives was enough for me to get one and so far having a lot of fun with them exclusives that I own. I would say yes get a slim it's very much worth it indeed.

I've always loved Xbox controllers but the Dual Shock 4 is great. Feels very nice in the hand and it also has a track pad and a speaker built in. The speaker is a novelty though, some games use it when doing stuff in game :)

Can't get a black pro for love nor money. Apparently tesco no longer sell the item and they are out of stock at curry's, argos, game, smyths (unless you want to drive miles and miles to collect) and John Lewis. Amazon want £420 and it's a market place seller not amazon and I won't touch Ebay with a barge pole. Zavvi want £400 as they only sell a fifa bundle with extras that I'm not interested in.

I'm really struggling to believe that UK stock issues are simply as the result of the GoW release.

Are Sony winding down pro production overall?

Sounds like I lucked out getting my (2nd) Pro at the weekend (replacing my OG PS4 upstairs). My local independent store had a used one in stock but in very good condition. Traded my old Wii U and a couple of games and got it for £170.

Never really checked for a new one as I wanted to get rid of some of my old stuff to bring the cost down. I do recall Amazon only having them at £420 though.

Will be interesting to see it on a 1080p TV as I have only used my main Pro on our 4K TV downstairs.

I switched over from an OG Xbox One late last year as I wanted to play the PS4 exclusives. So far I've played TLOU Remastered and Uncharted 4 - both excellent, Horizon Zero Dawn - fun gameplay but didn't enjoy the story/characters as much, and am currently playing through Uncharted: The Lost Legacy - more of the same Uncharted goodness. Looking forward to getting God of War and Spider Man later this year.

I picked up a slim, mainly down to cost, as it only cost me £30-40 to trade my Xbox for a new one (slim was ~£200 with a newish game). The Pro may be worth the extra if you have a 4k display or just want the extra frames. I prefer the controller to the Xbox one tbh. I like the speaker and the light on it, and the ability to play all sound from the headphone jack (Netflix etc), which I don't believe you can do with the Xbox. I don't really play online so can't comment on that side of things, but it's another consideration if you're switching.

Overall, very happy I made the switch. The exclusives from Sony's first/second party studios really are quality games that you shouldn't be missing. 2019 also looks promising with Ghost of Tsushima, TLOU 2, and Days Gone.

And a Touchpad, even fewer games use that! The rectangle in the middles primary use is a touchpad, but almost all games that use it use it's secondary function as a button.

I very much like the fact that they use the touch pad as more buttons. Great for calling up maps without having to trawl though menus.

In general I just love the functionality of the DS4. Just wish there was a pro version instead of the second party official ones.
