Need an upgrade to the ps4 HDD 500gb just isnt enough anymore

Is it worth ripping the old one out and sticking a 2tb in there or go external? If swapping to what? OCUK only have the baracuda compute drives in the spinning rust variaty, yes I could go ssd but the 250 quid on a 2tb ssd is better put towards ps5 at the end of the year

A 2TB SSD is around £200, or £170 - £180 if you keep you eyes out for the "daily sales" at certain retailers.
The £85 2TB Firecuda hybrid drive is a popular upgrade - again, straight swap out.

Easiest option is just plug in any USB3 external drive of your choice.

Ease isnt something im too worried about, i swapped the drive on my ps3 and the ps4 cant be any harder. I was more worried about performace of an external drive over an internal one. Can get a 3tb WD mybook for about 50quid at the moment so considering that as a cheap option

Yer - take that. Performance is really not noticeable - I have the Firecuba 2TB internally and a 4GB 2.5" WD externally - cannot say I notice any real performance differences between the two.

I'm not familiar with the "My Book" product - but so long as it doesn't have any built-in hubs or anything, with PS4 it has to be straight from external HD to USB.

Is the performance of PSNow any good? In people’s experience. Hard to trust websites etc.
I tried out the 7 day trial and it seemed fine. A lot of the games can be downloaded and installed rather than streaming.

Got PlayStation VR, for my Birthday on Friday. Glad I did it's really cool.

Tried streaming Wolfenstein II the other day and played for an hour or so. Performance was really good. I don't know if you know but you can also download many of the titles available if you'd prefer not to stream. I've used the service for 6 months and I've been really pleased with it.

@steve5424 and @Plainsong cheers both. I had the free trial to play something retro and unsubscribed at the end, but apparently not before the auto renew kicked in... I find that quite annoying actually tho be told ‘this won’t renew’ to get a notification a few hours later if ‘thanks for renewing’ - wut?! Anyway, I have it for a month so thought I’d ask here what the thoughts were.

I thought the performance was mostly good but with some imperfections at points, when streaming.

Resident Evil 7, Superhot VR, Beat Saber, Blood and Truth. :)
I bought Blood and Truth yesterday. Demo was fantastic. Also bought the Doctor Who Edge of time game. Really enjoyed it.

Farpoint was on sale so got that too.

Will buy Beat Saber once I get my move controllers delivered next week.

I have had no joy whatsoever streaming, major input lag makes every game unplayable for me and I have tried it on three different connections at three different addresses, I find it hard to believe the problem is my end and I'm very surprised others stream with no issue.

I took out a 12 month recently - CD Keys do the codes for about £39 for the year.
Downloaded Control, Vampyr and Carmageddon - obviously no issues there, download the same you would any other product from PSN.
I've found streaming PS3 games to be very acceptable too. I guess this is internet connection dependant - but I was suitable impressed when it just worked.

Stranded Deep is out/should be out now. I've been following it for 5 years or so on PC.

Not a big triple AAA title but finally making your own raft and exploring islands feels very rewarding.

Recently got myself an external hdd and I’m very happy with it. Performance is fine as far as I can see. I was going to go with a 2tb but decided on a 4tb luckily because I’ve nealy filled 3tb worth.

Well worth a purchase imo. If you have a lot of games don’t underestimate the size you might need. I thought a 2tb would have been more than enough but I’m glad I went for the bigger drive.

Hopefully when the ps5 releases I can just plug it in and carry on as normal and keep the internal one free for ps5 games :)

I believe it has been confirmed that you'll be able to play PS4 games from an external HDD on the PS5.
However - if the publisher decides to optimise the PS4 game for use on that pretty amazing SSD, you would need to move it to internal storage, obviously.

I remembered I have a couple of 3tb 3.5inch drives I took out of commision from my server as they had a handful of reallocated sectors on them plugged one into my pc formatted and ran disk mark still getting around 180mb/s on it, as this is just for moving installed games onto I might pop one into a cheap enclosure and see how long it lasts. If it dies worse case i've got to replace and reinstall a few games again

I am not getting much time on it at the moment but I was impressed by Arizona Sunshine and want to play more of it. I can actually stomach the free movement in it too unlike Skyrim.
