I made a thread asking the same question - Someone said games at 1440p 120Hz looked awful for him. Can anyone else in this thread answer this?
I use my PS5 at 1440p and it works fine for me. I think I've pretty much used it with either a 1080p or 1440p monitor since I first got my PS5 at launch.

Before Sony officially supported it you'd have games running at 1080p 120hz stretched to 1440p which is probably where the 'awful' description came from - but you could also (on some monitors) run the PS5 at 4k on a 1440p monitor which actually looked alright.

Now it's supported, you have native 1440p 120hz support and it runs great. Considering most games actually run at 1440p (and are then upscaled to 4k) it's actually a pretty solid choice.

I've recently played and 100%'d Spiderman 2 and Assassin's Creed Mirage on the PS5 at 1440p and it's been great.

Thanks for this. That's good to hear

What is the model number of your monitor? I'd like to compare the specs to mine

I have an LG 27GP850. It's 1440p 165hz (overclocked to 180hz).

I'm very tempted by the new LG 240hz OLED monitors, apparently they're great for the PS5 once you can get past the lower brightness.

As anyone bought off a scalper before?

I don't really want to do it, but I got messed around by GAME overselling and not delivering my PS Portal, so I'm stuck waiting for them to come back in stock.

The scalper offers are looking more attractive by the day :(

A guy I work with spent over a grand buying a PS5 from a scalper and I'm pretty sure he still regrets it to this day.

I'll hang on.

It's a shame the police can't get involved. Isn't what they do price gouging?
The frustrating thing is that it'll make Sony realise they should have charged more - so Portal 2 will end up being around 250/300.

Same thing happened with GPUs during the whole 2020/2021 situ, Nvidia and AMD see people paying 1k for a 70 series GPU from a scalper and then decide that the next generation are going to now cost substantially more.

I imagine the disc version will be pretty stable, the digital one notsomuch.

Depends if you're happy with the risk of it falling over.

Thanks for that

My first impressions of the PS5 slim. It looks good but its louder than I expected it to be, but I am sat very close to it with it being on my desk

It emits a high pitched fan whirring sound when playing but not really enough to be distracting

Mine sits fine vertically with no stand. I have the slim digi.

Yeah mine is pretty damn loud when the disc spins up but that's pretty much always been the way. Most of the time not so bad.

I agree the fan is audible but it's no biggy really, well, not in my case as it's in the TV downstairs so there's a bit of a distance to it for me. Plus, I tend to use headphones most of the time.

as far as I'm aware the ps5 isn't native 1440p anyway. If you select 1440p output it just downsamples from 4k, so you still get 4knimage just shrunk down to 1440p

I wonder if this is accurate. I thought selecting 1440p would just output a 1440p display without any downsampling. Mine has been running good at 1440p so far

The fan noise continues to annoy me slightly from my slim but from reading around online they are quite audible

Okay so I've talked about fan noise on the slim... What about coil whine? I know PS5s have had issues with coil whine for a while, I've even had a few GPUs with coil whine, but you'd think they'd find a way to fix or lessen it with the slim, however my slim definitely has audible coil whine

My latest revision fat one has slight electrical noise that's not really audible unless I close all the windows, turn down the volume and actively listen for it, wouldn't even classify it as coil whine.

I have no idea how frequent coil whine of distracting levels is with those or the Slim, though.
