My latest revision fat one has slight electrical noise that's not really audible unless I close all the windows, turn down the volume and actively listen for it, wouldn't even classify it as coil whine.

I have no idea how frequent coil whine of distracting levels is with those or the Slim, though.
Same for my slim. Sometimes I can hear it (Baldurs gate 3) and other time like horizon I’m playing right now I can barely hear anything.

Edit. I haven’t even heard the fan with this game yet. They’ve optimised it very well

The fan itself I've never heard ramp up in anything yet and hopefully it stays that way. Bad memories from the PS4 days, the Pro was like a jet engine. Considered taping it up to the desk so that it wouldn't take off and blast a hole in the ceiling.

I think with noise issues as well it's subjective based on the person and a number of factors, including how far away you're sitting from the console etc

As I described previously the fan in my slim sounds like a 'UFO' which is how I've seen other people describe it. Their are 4 different fans in the PS5 and I think it's a bit of a lottery as to which one you get, some louder than others. I don't feel like playing the return lottery so I'm just going to make do with it

My PS5 has certainly gotten louder with age and it’s always been louder than the XSX. I game with headphones though, so only ever hear it at the start and end of gaming sessions.

Yeah, same situation for me. I hear my PS5 when I take my headphones off, it's nowhere near as loud as the PS4/PS4 Pro was but it definitely is a bit audible when I take my headphones off.

I know you guys are talking about the phat OG PS5s but from what I've read it also seems like most of the slims are louder than expected because of the smaller profile and same size fans, so the fans need to work hard to expel the heat. Not sure how accurate this is though!

I can hear the fan in my slim across the room with a game loaded up

My slim is quieter than my phatty was.

Of course we're talking about noise from a reasonable distance, you can always hear the fans when you're so close that your head touches the console.

I can hear my PC fans from that distance too.

In my view, the PS5 can be classified as a quiet piece of kit, at least mine is like that, the fans don't really ramp up to any noticeable degree during load either.

It's not as whisper-quiet as XSX but still very quiet.

So how much do we know about the rumoured PS5 Pro?
Lots of "leaks", but hard to judge what could be real.

I know I'm way too early here, but I've had this PS5 since launch and I'm getting itchy for an upgrade for no reason at all :D - blame the PS4 Pro.

Got my PS5 at launch and I’ve loved it, I said prior that I got the PS4 getting a Pro revision however PS5 I don’t.

There hasn’t been enough games that have used or shown all of PS5 power for me yet and ones that have been stunning e.g Spider Man 2 / Ratchet and Clank haven’t made me think PS5 struggled and we need more power etc

This time it would be a very hard sell for me to upgrade to the Pro

That being said if it launches and I have a **** day at work and low sometimes retail tech therapy helps haha

Oh it's not necessary at all lol, I just want it :D.

Strangely, I'm very happy with the Series X as is but want an upgrades PS5. I want to play all those single player titles at max raytracing, 60 FPS.

Imo the room plays a part too, our living room is a reasonable size and my ps5 is about 4.5m away, and in an open stand. I can hear the low whine of the fans, but they're not too annoying as it's only really during loading screens you can hear it. Occasionally the drive spins up and that is noisy, but still far quiet than my old ps4 pro which I reckon our neighbours could hear, and we live in a detached house:cry:. I also have mega sensitive hearing though.

The PS5 has been fine so far but more games are starting to target 30 FPS again like last time. I can't stand 30 FPS on my OLED so if PS5 Pro gets 60 FPS in most of those games I'll be tempted

There's no way a Pro model will be capable of doing full on RT at 60fps. Consoles are miles away from that level of performance. Heck, even the PS6, whenever it comes out, will be struggling to do that. What a PS5 Pro will try to deliver is 4k 60fps in the majority of games, and even then that won't be native resolution ... it'll use checkerboarding/upscaling tecniques.

I ended up getting the PS5 slim replaced and the new replacement is so much more silent. It must have one of the quieter fans
