I feel that only matters to the kind of people who own TV calibration devices. Can't see average user caring or even knowing what difference it makes.

True, it's just a little disappointing and would have been a relatively easy step that Sony could have taken to differentiate the PS5 to the PS5 Pro.
Just shame can't get disc drive day 1, gonna be really sucky not being able play some of games I'm wanting it for + others I'd like to play with Pro enhancements

There's so many in this position, it's nuts. Scalpers. Multiple auctions running on eBay for +£160. Absolutely insane.

Yup, checking occasionally and still no drives in stock here in Poland, except for those sold at preposterous prices. One bloke bought like fifty Slims and is trying to flog the drives as "new without box", obviously for a hefty premium. What a **** show.

The consoles themselves aren't exactly flying off the shelves but given how ridiculous this is getting, even if I get a drive, I'm still waiting for those eager early adopters to test the hardware for me in case there are any annoying faults. If enhancement announcements for the games that truly matter come in the meantime, then all the better.

I reckon I'll get it in a month or so if everything is all right.

I read somewhere apparently the fan is smaller than the slim ? I hope it’s not noisy.

I regret selling my OG PS5, fan was fine on that. Got a revised model later (GOW bundle) and the fan had a high pitched UFO noise to it.
Had to get rid of it. Turns out it was some kind of lottery which fan you got if I recall.
I am very sensitive to it as I rarely game with headphones and my brain tunes in to it.

Same here.

I’m hoping for less coil whine too. But I’m thinking the Pro is going to be quite loud!

Yeah certain fans had a really unpleasant tone. The ufo ones could be heard from 6ft away. I tried all sorts like adjusting screws, rubber o-rings etc but ended up just returning it.

Maybe the smaller fan in the pro will have a nicer pitch to it.

My current slim does have a bit of coil whine (it’s lower pitch though so I don’t notice it if the tv volume is up)

Edit. Looks like the pro will image enhance most ps4 games too ? Sounds good?

They had two fan manufacturers and it was a bit of a lottery, I got the fatty 1216A (C-Chassis) and it's fine.

About PS4 titles, the ones with dynamic resolution targets apparently benefit from Gameboost and get a slightly sharper image, should actually work the same for non-enhanced PS5 titles if they have dynamic res. If a game jumps in res depending on load, then the Pro will be able to bruteforce a higher res target. Just not sure if this is all Gameboost does as they haven't gone in-depth about what it actually is.

EDIT: Oh, for PS4 games it's actually a toggle in the options so not even Gameboost and it doesn't affect framerates, it might be PSSR-based. I reckon Gameboost will do the above with non-enhanced games but we'll have to wait and see.

That game boost toggle is very interesting. See how that plays out in the real world. Potentially improved image quality (some titles) but won’t give you performance gains. Interesting nevertheless.

I'm really confused about what this actually is and what it is actually for? Surely any PS5 game will be patched for PS5 pro, as many have been (80+ at this point). If it somehow "boosts" PS4 games, then would the base PS5 not benefit from this also?

I can dream for a boosted Bloodborne or RDR2 but that aint gonna happen and if it did, surely this would hit all variants of the PS5.

e: Hmm This is supposedly a comparison with Bloodborne using the method. No FPS boost alas.

From what I gather the boost simply makes games run at the max there dynamic res supports, I've also seen people talking about it boosting games with uncapped frame rate but that should be obvious really since it's a more powerful system

Sod the Pro, that's a cool looking gaming store. Meanwhile in the UK all we've really got left is a dark, dingy corner of Sports Direct. :p

There will be loads of PS5 games that won't get Pro enhancements, as was the case last gen, so a Boost mode at least has the potential to improve framerates or dynamic resolutions.

I don't think this PS4 enhancement thingy is actual GameBoost, I think they've put PSSR to work because otherwise I see no reason why the base console wouldn't be able to do it, though I'm not sure how it's supposed to read motion vectors and stuff in PS4 titles (as this is what machine learning upscalers like DLSS do for the most part), maybe that's why it'll work for "some" games and might result in issues in others.

That would also align with why it doesn't improve framerates at all but even if it did, Bloodborne cannot be run at 60fps reliably because the physics engine is tied to the framerate, it needs a complete engine rework.

I don't think all currently released PS5 games will be enhanced and that's where I reckon Gameboost comes in, if a game has dynamic resolution targets, the Pro will bruteforce the highest possible target without affecting fps and, likewise, if a game is locked at 60fps but suffers dips, the Pro might be able to iron those out.

OK. I get games with an uncapped frame rate or use DRS will benefit by default of the extra grunt power. Seems slightly disingenuous to market it as "Game Boost". Oh well, roll on Thursday (:

I have an Xbox Series X but I'm thinking of switching over to the Playstation. I'm trying to make up my mind with whether I should stick to the Xbox Series X until the end of the current generation or whether I should just jump in the deep end and get the PS5 Pro. The only thing holding my back is that I need a disc drive as I have a lot of DVDs and Blu-rays.

I guess I could get the Pro and then wait for the disc drive to come back in stock? I'm just looking for some advice really.

I have both PS5 and Series X, they both have their appeal. I think it all boils down to if there are games on PS that you want to play, and if there are any titles you'd miss by not having a Series X?

I've always bought the cross-platform games on Series X, but I can see that changing in the future. I think Xbox is clearly now out of the race with innovation and power, unless they have something up their sleeves, which is doubtful as we would have heard something, so that creates no competition on consoles until MS release the next gen, perhaps at the very earliest, 2026? Who knows.

I don't have any plans to sell my Series X though, as there are titles that still interests me.
