Damn dpd still not picked up my ps direct order. Label has been printed since 3am.......they better get the finger out.
I think they'll go out in one big batch. I got a message from DPD that my parcel had been collected at 2.49pm. The Sony Direct website states they process shipments up to 3pm.

Surprised more reviews aren't posted, as the embargo ended.

Not read or watched it yet....

A couple more reviews have dropped

Confirms that I made the right choice to not bother :)

TL;DR: Some nice improvements in some titles so, yeah, gameboost can "fix" some poor-performing games (SH2 benefits as well). Falls short of a 6800 in Elder Ring and, realistically, I reckon it also won't be, as some thought, anywhere close to a 4070 in real scenarios because you can get north of 100fps in AW2 with that using PS5 settings, for example. DLSS3.5 with framegen is just superior, as are the RT capabilities (with some sacrifices you can run Path Tracing at around 70fps).

It's not able to bruteforce locked 60fps in ER's performance mode but it's close (not sure about heavy combat and other areas of the game), quality mode is now usable. ER's DRS is just too aggressive, the game would have to be patched for the Pro and still the CPU is pretty dogwater in 2024 so i suspect there might be more and more bottlenecks down the line. Not enough for 60fps in FFXVI either, maybe it'll get patched.

But that all leads to what I've been saying, the raster uplift alone is just not enough to provide consistent 60fps, especially taking the CPU side into consideration. How well devs use AI upscaling will make or break the console and 2025 is where it's at.

Currently, I'm left feeling a bit lukewarn and I frankly think this is what the base console should've been. It's obviously an upgrade but the price + drive scalping puts me off. Will be thinking hard for the upcoming weeks but maybe an ultrawide OLED for PC is the way to go for now, I can go way over what the Pro can do that way.

Wonder if there’s any comments on fan noise / coil whine. Hope they’re both reduced. :P

From what I've read, runs practically the same as the base model noise and temp wise.

Oh I dunno. I was very much a grouch with this but now considering I've upgraded from the OG to the Pro for effectively £317, accepting I then faux rented my OG for 4 years at £206 and chopped it in for £243.

Total expenditure is £560. Yeah, I'm down a optical drive but not a bad outcome in the grand scheme of things.

e: maths all over the place!

Do you think the quickest way to transfer games is to copy them all to the M.2 SSD drive in the OG PS5, stick that M.2 in the Pro, and transfer the games to the internal drive?
If you're keeping the M.2 drive in the Pro, just leave the games on there. It will take much longer to copy the games off the M.2 drive than it takes to copy them to it.

Aye, a few reviews seem to be concerned about distance to TV and TV size. I don't care; I just want to future proof playing games at 60 (or 40 120/VRR), including GTA6.

no such thing as future proof :( And we will have no chance of running GTA6 on PS5 pro at 60fps without serious compromise.

Generally speaking... This is a niche product. It's the most powerful console ever released. It's not leaps and bounds above PS5 or Xbox, but it is an improvement. This is overclockers.co.uk though.. we like shiny and fast.

Aye. I think quite a few folk, including me will feel properly mugged off if GTA6 does not at least offer a 120hz/40 option on the Pro.

Don't hold your breath buddy. Locked 40 would be a good target. If they can improve their poor VRR implementation to kick in at lower fps (I think it's 48hz minimum at present) then that would be even better IMO.

Well if they (R* or whoever else) cant leverage the AI/PSSR performance aspects of the thing to upscale from a lower resolution then it really be a pointless endeavour. Let's be up beat though eh!

The Verge article kinda misses the point, imo ... the PS5 Pro isn't about improving image fidelity, it's about improving FPS without compromising image quality.
