I went through 3 separate consoles (one from Amazon, two from Curry's) because of terrible coil whine noise on Dragon Age Veilguard, Jedi Survivor, Diablo IV et al. I recorded it here. Note the mic was placed behind the console, so this isn't reflective of real-world levels.

Can I ask:

If you own any of the games, and you've not had any issue (when using Performance Mode), can you please let me know which retailer you purchased it from? Bonus if it was a London high street. I'm considering trying my luck once more.

I’ve put 35 hours into Veilguard and nothing. Was from Sony Direct. I definitely think it’s the luck of the draw. I play with headphones so I asked my wife if the console is making any noise when I am playing and she said she can’t hear anything. Just the buzz of the haptics from the controller at times. But the console is silent. Lucked out I guess.

Some of the fights in Veilguard are very intense with a lot going on so I think if it was under stress the fan might ramp up but it doesn’t seem to. Zero coil whine.

I am finding it hard to believe that it can be so quiet when using the Performance Mode on that game. If you can, when you get the time, please put your phone behind the console and record the sound like I have. Switch between the game and the home screen. If it's as quiet as you're suggesting, I will place an order with Sony Direct.

Thank you.

That makes it worse, if it was a few weeks fine, but if there is a 7 day period and they did it on day 8 it could not be more knowingly umdersold. I would kick off with head office just out of principal.
Perhaps play hardball and threaten to send the whole thing back under consumer rights laws, if purchased online. Seems exceptionally churlish to not offer a credit or somesuch at the very least. JL are normally pretty good with that stuff too.

Mine is quiet. Enjoying it ! I suppose everyone ears are different. But I hear a very gentle whooshing noise ( I mean the fan is blowing air after all) but that’s it

Why did Sony release the Pro? Why now? The demand wasn't there at all.

Imagine if they released this to coincide with the release of GTA6, bided their time and made the relevant improvements to keep up with the demands of the game.

Would have been a slam dunk for them.

I mean it sold almost 80k consoles in Japan in the first week ? It’s doing okay.
My point was with the timing, if they had just waited a little longer for the most anticipated game of all time and capitalised on it, would have been huuuuge, no question.

Why does it affect you if you don't buy one? This is like whinging when Nvidia release a faster graphics card.

Yeah I don’t get that at all. I mean, why not? GTA6 is is going to be massive no matter what Sony do.

My guess is just testing the waters sooner to see how high they can drive up the price of the PS6 while including as little as possible. If a lot of people lap it up without batting an eyelid, then I'm fairly sure PS6 will launch at an even higher pricepoint.

I don't think it was entirely about performance as the difference between the two consoles is not big enough and I guess Zen2 is there precisely to ensure they wouldn't get too far apart in the first place. It's also the testing grounds for PSSR as AI upscalling will probably be a big factor for the PS6.

And I reckon people will be a bit disappointed when GTA6 turns out to be locked at 30fps with a bit more fx and a sharper presentation because I doubt Zen2 has what it takes to drive such a world. I hope I'm wrong but I'm 90% sure.
