Just completed Dead Island 2. Pretty solid game all things considered. I liked the Hollywood setting. Good combat mechanics and weapon customization. Plenty of side content too. Glad I beat it before the new Star Wars game comes out though, don't like having two new games to juggle at once.

Didn't it only come out on Saturday? That's some dedication :p .

I think I might start looking to get a PS5 SSD to go in the expansion slot, I have been managing games by deleting and installing as and when but with games getting bigger and bigger in size, the new Star Wars just took up 150GB+ plus other games I like to keep dipping in and out of it is getting to the point where I am thinking about getting one, are there any recommendations on which one to get?

I went with a WD SN850 1TB not long after the 2nd slot was enabled. No issues with it. You can get it with a pre-installed heat sink or buy a 3rd party one.

No regrets with PS+ as there are plenty of titles on there. You just have to wait if you don’t want to pay full whack for new releases.

Can’t say that I have any regrets. I’ve not felt any need to be engaging in buying/selling titles and don’t feel like I’m missing out. Granted, my choice to go digital only for my games catalogue means I’m spending more money overall. But I’m happy with the costs given I’m playing subscription titles on PS+ and GPU or making use of sales, resulting in only occasional games being bought at full price when I really want to play a new release.

I made the decision to go completely digital a good few years back when I still had a PS4 / Xbox One X, no regrets.

I completely understand the value in disc consoles for those who want or need to make use of the savings created by buying and then selling on disc titles and more power to them, but my preference is digital.

I don’t feel one way is any more valid than the other in relation to digital/physical - it’s just down to personal preference.

I finally picked up a PS5 about a week ago, I have to say - the combination of a Steam Deck, dual boot with Game Pass Ultimate and a PS5 is literally everything i'll ever need, all for a cheaper price than i've spent on every gaming pc i've had over the years.

I 100%'d HZD on Steam, so I am now playing through Forbidden West and its great, if the wife/kids are watching the TV - playing it on my Deck via chiaki is basically a native experience.

Just started Sackboy:A Big Adventure with the wife last night too, seems fun so far!

Yeah, building a gaming PC these days doesn't represent good value for money. Between price gouging on components and **** poor PC ports it can be a frustrating experience. Owning a PS5 and/or Xbox with a handheld eg. Switch, Steam Deck or Asus ROG Ally gets you a vast selection of titles to choose from, with good performance and at a price that is less than a 4000 series Nvidia GPU.

I can see the benefit of going for the digital one. I'm glad I went for the disc version though because I can buy a game 2nd hand on FB Marketplace, complete it and sell it again for the same price. It doesn't happen a lot (as I have ps+) but having the option is nice. If I didn't do this now & again I'd have definitely gone with the digital.

I've not gamed on PC for nearly 20 years so I am well out of the loop. I was watching Skillups review of Jedi Survivor at the weekend and the problems he has with the PC port despite how high end his PC is so I just searched for his 4000 gfx card. $3,500 here!! I knew they were dear but didn't realise they were that much. You can get 5 Series X's for that.

I went with the disc version on release day - and honestly ?? I’ve used the drive for one game (bundled sackboy) wish I had just got the digital console as it looks more uniformed.

Within 12 months all PS5's for sale will come with a portable disc drive, so users can remove the drive when they don't need it. This is the "ps5 slim", May not actually be called slim but it's a new model revision and both of the current models will be sunsetted and replaced with the new slim version that has a portable disc drive

I think it will be the other way round. All the slims will be discless and you then pay extra for the drive if you want it.

Somewhere in between - likely both SKUs will still be available at retail (and additionally the drive is likely to be available separately), but physically it's only 1 model of console to produce rather than the current 2, simplifying production and reducing cost.

This makes the most sense. It means every single PS5 that leaves the factory is packaged exactly the same - single SKU for every PS5, then a separate optical drive option.

Just hope it doesn't go the way of the HD dvd drive of the 360. Without disc games, there's no incentive to not change 70 quid all the time on the store. I use my drive a fair bit and its also my dvd/bluray player anyway.

I had something that struck me recently regarding my PS5. I have a 1Tb NVME added so about 1.6Tb of storage(Not including my PS4 games on a 4Tb Ext USB Drive) and when i came to play a game it stated that i didnt have enough space to update the game. Anyway, what the heck has happened to the feature that was touted when the PS5 was announced using the direct storage/IO to pull assets from a single pool of assets rather than them be duplicated across several segments/episodes/levels? This was not possible in the past due to the seek time of a plattered drive but considering there is not really any seek time on NVME technology is it just not being implemented by lazy devs? One of the benefits of this is used fantastically in Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart but another benefit should be games should still be as big as they are (In the scale of the game enviroment) but smaller in data/installation size but games are still being released that are huge! I can understand GT7 being large due to the huge amount of different assets in the vehicles but why the heck does/did black op cold war require almost half of the internal drive? Some of these numbers are bloody silly and surely they could be shrank utilising a pool of common assets rather than having these monsterous installs that in come cases limit to a couple of games on the internal storage and 6-7 on a additional 1Tb drive..

Actually i just say a website had released an article regarding this: https://gamerant.com/ps5-biggest-game-file-sizes-gb/

If I had the digital console gaming would cost me a fortune as I buy the big games on release so playing and reselling 2-3 weeks after I bought it means I only end up paying around £20. I only buy sub-£20 games digital and that's only occasionally.

There's quite a few things that Mark Cerny talked about in his developer presentation that haven't come to fruition. One, as you say, is the file sizes aren't going down as they should. Be that because of asset duplication or the Oodle Kraken decompression isn't being used properly, who knows. Another is when games are patched with an update, there is still an arduous wait whilst a copy process occurs. This was supposed to be eliminated but obviously hasn't been. And I doubt many game engines are yet using the full capability of the 5.5GB/sec SSD. Maybe when PS6 comes along we'll see further improvement. :p
