The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

Not RealD 3D glasses that they use in Odeon/View/Apollo etc and if they do then it's such a small amount that I've not even noticed.

It's nothing to do with the glasses iirc.

3D films are darker then their 2D counter parts, it's a by product of the 3D effect.

This is absolutely true.....the lack of polarisation in the cameras means that 3D has to be brighter to compensate, however few cinemas do this so it appears that some scenes are too dark. It is worse in 2D conversions than it is in 3D filmed material, but you can lose up to 80% of the brightness compared to 2D....the Glasses don't help mind, but they are not the main cause.

3D TVs have the same issues, although you can mess about with the settings to compensate a bit.

I'll be the first to admit I was little disappointed when I heard this would be in 3D, just go back to the earlier posts in this thread and I said just as much.

However after seeing the trailer for this in 3D before the Avengers movie, i'm sold, the visuals on this film are so outstanding and the 3D does not detract from that, it really does add an extra element.

Yeah 2d to 3d really is dark, have to crank brightness up

I'm seeing this in 3d imax, i like 3d, saw avengers last night in 3d and the trailer for this in 3d, think it's the best 3D I have seen, before I knew it was prometheus, looked real and not exaggerated

Can't wait, film I'm most looking forward to seeing in ages

I though that also, the 3D in the Prometheus trailer was better than the Avenger Movie which was pretty dark in some places.

Ahhh right never noticed the darkness myself on films I've watched on bluray after seeing it in 3d at the cinema although my displays at home are calibrated quite dark anyway.

The sad thing is, the movie theaters in Finland are using absolutely useless XpanD 3D which makes the picture ridiculously dark. XpanD 3D is all we get, no alternatives. The best example I can think of is Avatar, the best 3D movie by 3D standards. But even that was way, way too dark. Borderline unwatchable at times. You remember the movie being full of bright colours? I remember muted colours and darkness. Well I did until I got my hands on the Bluray.

2D converts are completely no-go. I tried watching Thor a year ago and there were scenes early in the movie in Jotunheim where the screen was quite literally black for long periods of time. Later I watched the movie from Bluray and was quite surprised how much there was going in that complete darkness I had seen before :)

Now the local movie theatre is sometimes attempting to show 2D copies of huge blockbusters for a week. Too bad they are doing that with the smallest possible screens. I'm talking about seeing huge blockbusters in rooms for 50 people. At that point it just might be better to wait for the Bluray, again. I can't but hate 3D because of all of the above. My movie watching experience would be infinitely better if 3D didn't exist.

Does anyone have any doubt that this will be anything but amazing, think this will be the benchmark sci-fi movie of our time!

I always have some doubts when they make prequels from franchises that we all love.

especially when it's 99% CGI, and the "old" stuff was bare basics :p

but does look good none the less.
