The official Ps3 thread

Hi I could get hold of a Jap ps3! would I be able to hook it up to a kettle/radio powerlead? or does that model need a convertor? also I hear that the japanese consoles have restrictions for certain material i.e bloody games is this true?

I have a Jap PS3 and I use a standard PC/Kettle lead with a 3a fuse in without issue. You wont be able to play UK PS2/PS1 games on your Jap import but PS3 games are region free. You will also only be able to play DVD/BD films from that region.

Japanese dvds are the same region as ours? but bd films will be usa/jap is this correct?

We bought my daughter a PS3 for Christmas from Japan. She has all the consoles and handhelds and her opinion of the PS3 is that it is awesome! Even to the untrained person like me, I see the depth of colour the games have compared to the 360. Hi-def is DEFINATELY btter with the PS3. Blu-Ray is pretty cool aswell, and I love the USB stick options. We've watched some great movies via the USB port and we get really smooth playback.

Big thumbs up from our household regarding the PS3. It is much better than the 360. I am not a fanboy in any way shape or form. Just seen both in action.

A few of the big independant games sites did comparison tests between the 2 consoles and it was found that the 360 was better in the areas you mentioned and more e.g. colour depth. Also I take it you have never heard of the test they did at the appollo, where they let the public play multi plat titles on both consoles and at the end of the day the majority preferred the 360.

I just thought I would point it out really, if your having fun with it thats all that matters at the end of the day.

Also saying the PS3 is better than the 360 and claiming not to be a fanboy on these forums takes some courage!! :p :D

Good isnt it :D I've been nipping around to my friends nearly every weekend so far, to play on his :D I'm sure he's going to put up a restraining order soon :p

Resistance is a good game, Although not as good as GOW. Thats not the PS3's fault tho, Thats just the game in general.

And I've played Call of Duty 3 on both consoles now, And in all honesty, There isnt a difference. Thats both being played on Sony Bravia screens.

I dont know if it is or not but I know that a Japanese import PS3 wont play PAL DVD's.

{edit} With reference to the Kettle lead I had to laugh at a mate of mine who got a JAP import PS3 but didn't even turn it on for a week. When I asked him why he said "well my Dad doesn't want me to take the lead off the kettle" LOL
The worst bit is that he has an A+ and I had to explain it wasn't the actual lead from his kettle but a standard PC lead :D
