dont forget that in normal day to day running you wont get near them temps.
i think the highest i seen mine when gaming is the mid 50.s

im in the kitchen tho and when the missus has the tumble dryer and the oven goin i can see cores reach low 60's playin bfbc2. thats with 3.2g and 1.42v (bios) and 1.36v (load cpuz). still need to keep this cpu for another year and for the performance difference cant justify paying out for a new cooler. cheers for your help tho. i do intend to abuse this chip in the the run up to my upgrade. cant see them selling for too much in a years time lol

as long as its stable, i wouldn't worry about temps in the 60's
edit.
once you reach 250 posts, you can have acess to the members market here.
i bought a Tuniq Tower 120 there for £15, its ok upto 3.2 ish but its way better than the stock cooler.
it might be worth thinking about, also if you get one of the newer ones, it should fit any newer cpu's

will definatly be looking a new cooling system for when i upgrade since my ocz vendetta 2 wont fit anything new, i could justify buying a cooler that will fit my upgrade. which at the minute wud be an i5 2500k but who knows what it will be in a years time lol.

This is a p35 board.
Clock speed is only 3.4

This board has had a hard life crunching numbers 24/7 for several years and i do not want to finish off the VRM's by running IBT at 3.6.

There's a nice low VID chip on members market just now for £70... thats an absolute bargain if you ask me, as this chip clearly has a good bit of life left in it to mess with the big boys. Best bang for buck CPU on the market surely?

Using a Zalman CNPS 10x.
The gflops are a lot higher on the Intel board.
No surprise to any one i suppose NV chipsets sucked, but pre X58 they were the only game in town if you wanted SLI.

Think it's time I done some overclocking.

Installed realtemp and coretemp and Intel Burn Test.

Bit worried by my idle temps though before I start anything,

49c 48c 46c 46c (around that idle) seems a bit high compared to what others are quoting?

What do people think?

yup they are high for idle. you should be in the low 30's atleast. what cooling do you have?

Right I've had a real good cleanout, it's been over 3years now so was due lol.

Have a Tuniq Tower 120, was a bit dusty so cleaned that all out, plus both case fans were a bit caked. Bit unsure of my fan positioning, well not placement but direction in my Akasa Eclipse 62.

I have front case fan drawing air in.
Back top case fan blowing out
TT120 fan blowing towards to back top fan (was facing the other way blowing into the case, drawing from the out fan) so think that will be better now it will take air from case centre and blow it the back.

But anyway the temps;

37-36-35-35 (idle) "ish"

An improvement. I reckon I could get it lower if I reseated the cpu with fresh paste, or will the paste be the same today as day one?

And by the way core and real are identical

you cud run intel burn test to get an idea of your load temps they are the important 1s. fresh paste would do no harm mite lower ur temps a few degres.
