***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

What voltage reading is right ?

Running my quad at 333x9 bumped the voltage up 1 notch in bios

Bios default 1.27
Current setting in bios 1.28

Everest & cpu-z reads 1.23

Giga g33mm-ds2r board

Everest/cpu-z are reading right.

You are getting a 'drop' (from the setting in bios to actual voltage) and from getting into windows. It may droop down further when you put the cpu under load.

i've got Abit iP35 Pro, can anyone help me overclock my Q6600 G0 L272A to 400x8? currently running at 334x9, every voltage default except RAM, which OCZ requires 2.1.

whenever i go up on FSB any higher than 360 (x8 multiplier, 1:1 memory), i get a blue-sreen-of-death during Vista start-up. i have tryed going to 1.4 on Vcore, but this still happens.

which other voltage shall i increase?
Abit has: Vcore, DDR2 Voltage (first 2 i know), CPU VTT, MCH Voltage, ICH Voltage, ICHIO Voltage (<< what are these?) and 3 percentage thingy.

my PCIe clock is unchanged at 100Mhz, but where can i find the PCI clock lock?

Give the CPU VTT and MCH Voltage a nudge for more FSB mhz.

And the PCI will be locked already.

thank you very much. now running at 400x8
in BIOS: Vcore=1.3950; Vtt= 1.27; Vmch=1.33 (the Vtt and MCH are 2 notch higher than default)
and in Abit uGuru: Vcore= 1.32 to 1.38; Vtt=1.28; Vmch=1.33

done 20mins of error less Prime, temperatures is around 60, never higher than 65 according to the highest reading. RAM running at 1:1 4-4-4-12 instead of default 4-4-4-15. which of those timings shall i tighten to give better performance?

and i do see 2 different sets of readings, which one shall i believe?

also, is it normal to have 1 or 2 cores have at most, 8c higher temperature than the others? i can't find a pattern as which one is higher, sometimes 1,3 sometimes, 1,4 and sometimes 2,4. seems like random

Sorry I mean on the evga it is the same settings (1800 on the fsb with the multiplier set at 8 and my ram at 800 I just devide the desired setting by 4 to get the normal fsb)

I have not used the BFG board but I would assume that it uses the same bios as both boards are just Nvidia ref. design.

It might be worth seeing if BFG do a specific version of the 680i that is optomised for quad core as I had to rma my evga to get the right one

Tomorrow i'm joining the club. I'm going to go ocuk and get:

Intel C2Q Q6600 G0
Gigabyte GA P35C DS3R
Geil 4GB PC6400C4
Corsair 520W power supply

IS it worth me chucking a better cooler onto that list if I want to overclock. What comes the most highly reccomended for the quad. Also would anyone change anything on my list?

Thanks. Can't wait until tomorrow i'm so sad. :D

Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme. It's got 9 quid off this week and is probably the best air cooler available. You'll also need a 120mm fan for it.

Added that cooler to the list with a zalman zm-f3 silent fan. mmmmm silent computer. Will make a change. :)

*EDIT*

OK I have got all of my stuff now, the CPU is a L725B020 I don;t know if that's any good. I will let you know my overclocks soon hopefully!

*EDIT 2*

Got it running at 3.4 stable but backed it off to 3.2 for every day use to keep it cooler! :)

Seems nippy compared to my AMD! :p

whats the temp limit with the B3 Q6600's ?

Idle is around 33-38c on all 4 cores, under load is 60-57c

If it's ok until 70-75c then I'll clock it more, only running at 3ghz

I wouldn't go over 75c when Priming. That's the hottest it'll ever get by a good few degrees.
