***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

The memory's speed goes up as you increase the CPU's FSB. How much depends on the ratio you have set.

what is the general Vcore range shall i be looking at IF i want to run my G0 L272A843 on an Abit iP35 Pro (this mobo is quite famous for its Vdroop, lol )

Ok thanks. The setting you are speaking of must be the 1:1.25.This is the one that gives me 1000Mhz on the memory, with 8x400.Is 1.250V a good start for 3.2 or should I increase it a tad?I guess Im ready to do it then!I have one more question, will I have to disable Intel Speedstep and the C1E before I do it?And if I disable it,will I have to enable it when Im done with OCing?

I would disable them whilst you're overclocking. It's up to you whetjer your re-enable them after you're finished.

I would start at 1.30v, tho you'll likely need 1.325-1.35v.

Have you checked CoreTemp to see what the chips VID is?

It is 1.2750.Ram will be fine at 2.2v?Is Prime testing Ram's stability aswell?

Cool,Im starting with 1.3 then. Then I have to run Prime for 8 hours,or it wont even boot if the voltage is low?And memory will be at 2.2(for 1000mhz,1:1.25) right?Sorry for all these questions Cob,but I have to be sure about what Im doing :p

I would leave the memory on 1:1 until you have finished with the CPU.

If the voltage is too low then the board should try to boot a few times and then will boot at stock settings.

If it boots ok then run Prime for 8 hours. If it fails, then bump the vcore.

Let the nail-biting fun commence.

my cooling is only Zalman 9500 (don't laugh)

so i expect i can't go very high on voltage than?

Right,I just did it and it booted fine!I guess thats a good sign! These are my settings 356FSB x9,1:1 at 712,1.3050v for CPU and 2.2v for Ram.Idle temps are exactly the same!!How is this possible?Oh and cpuz still shows 1.280 and core temp 1.2750.
EDIT:my bad,temps were 36 32 33 26 and now they are 38 35 35 30(idle)

Idle temps don't mean **** tbh. It's the load temps that you need to pay attention too. And Coretemps VID won't change.

It's a good start that it booted into Windows at 1.305v. Tho it'll probably fail Prime.

Btw be sure to enable Round off Checking in the Advanced menu of Prime95 or you'll be wasting your time.

I started Prime and yes it failed.Upped it at 1.315,booted again and now I will try with 1.325.I am using small FFT's,this is the one to use right?

Damn I didnt have that option enabled until now.Tried with this enabled at 1.225 and it rebooted,I will try now at 1.335.

EDIT:Woah,1.335 didnt work either,it rebooted after 5 seconds.I guess I have to increase it more :(

Hmm nothing is working so far.Tested at 1.3450 and I had to reset as it didnt respond, increased it now at 1.550.Isnt this a bit high?Prime is running for a whole minute now, temps are 54 50 48 54,what do you think?

1.550v :/

I hope that's a typo.

But I would keep raising it until Prime95 passes with temps running below 70c.
