***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

Wahoo, I did it, 3.6ghz for 9hrs stable with 1.525v in bios (drooping to 1.456) avg temp being sub 60 under a TRU-E with XILENCE 120mm fan :D

I could cry:(

Oh how I love prime....not! I'll give it a go again tonight :)

Aye it'll do it eventually, its just a pita going for so long then reseting. Weird that everytime it does fail it resets rather than failing. Its done this no matter what clockspeed I run at, always resets, never fails. Anyone else noticed this with vista64?

Odd, I’m on XP(32bit) and unlike every other CPU I've had before, it just fails and does NOT reboot which makes a nice change as I've been monitoring my PC from work via RDC lol (sad I know!).

What PSU do you have?

Dual boot and try it in XP

1kw Silverstone so I doubt thats the problem lol.

I could run it on xp I guess but whats the point when vista is my main OS these days. I'll give it another run tonight with a couple of tweaked settings, see how far it gets me. Damn PC's :)

you must have one of the best batches of Q6600 :o only 1.35 required for 3.2Ghz!

Bioshock, Medal of Honuor Airborne are very smooth. but STALKER gets a bit of stutter here and there which is expected since it doesn't use all 4 cores. but i can't get World in Conflict to work smoothly with everything maxed out :( i had to turn off soft shadow, AA, a few water reflection options and lower resolution to 1280x800 to have above minimum of 15 for in-game benchmark

Ha ha don't say that you will make me want to try more volts an see what it can really do! Seems to max at about 55 degrees at the moment. Hmmm might try and overclock a bit more, damn you. :p

I seem to get really sever vdroop and vdrop thhough which is putting me off. Set at 1.35 volts in bios but 1.25 under load in windows seems a bit extreme. :(

I suppose if it really is a good chip it would be a shame to leave at 3.2 though. Anyway i'm suprised to hear that world in conflict is struggling on yours considering you basically have the same computer as me:

3.2 Quad
GA P35C DS3R
8800 320MB (not overclocked)
4GB Ram @ 400FSB 1:1 ratio
Vista x64

I have the latest Vista DX10 beta drivers 163.71 and 4GB... I don't know if thats making the difference. I ran world in conflict at 1920 x 1200 but with no AA. All the other goodies were on I think.

But I have the same experiance with stalker... I have to turn the graphics down a little to get it perfectly smooth in native resolution.

EDIT: I'm at 3.6 now. :) 1.376 Volts under load. 1.5125 volts set in bios. 60 degrees under load. I will try and get it 8hr stable, not bad for near-silent air cooling

Afaik, its a common problem with quads, the os craps out before the stress testing app in 90% of cases.
I can prime at 3.9 for 5 hours and 23 mins, then it rebooted :(

Ive only been brave enough to try a small overclock so far 2.88 gig got mine at atm its prim95, temps showing 46,47,46,48 on 100% all.

I love your stability user ethic:)

Just like me:)

Maybe we should make up?

I'm a complete noob at overclocking... so I've only managed to get mine at 2.8Ghz. I really want to get it to 3.0Ghz but it won't post at that speed. I've tried 2.9Ghz too and it posts but Windows doesn't wanna boot... have I reached my limit? :(
