***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

What do you think about my temps cob?

Running prime they can range from 60-69 @ 2.8ghz with 1.275 volts. Would you recommend a new air cooler or should I be fine?

If you're intending to push it further then an aftermarket cooler is a necessity.

im using the latest cpuz so is this vdrooping like everyone says? or should i worry having it set at 1.5 in the bios?

It sounds a bit much for vdroop, tho the older ASUS boards could have a habit of having pretty huge vdroop.

For reference my Gigabyte P35-DS3P is set to 1.5325v in BIOS and is about 1.49v at idle, but drops to ~1.46v under load.

cob - i only bought it the other week. but im guessing the p5k isnt a new board, this might explain it somewhat.

some dude said a quadcore will have a bigger vdroop probobly.

i need someone to help me with this clock i think :(

any voulenteers :D (spelling lessons will also be accepted:) )

Nah the P5K is new. I was just referring to their older ASUS boards.

And yip the quads will cause a larger vdroop.

What are your current settings?

360fsb
northbridge 1.55v
9 multiplyer (auto)
1.5v vcore
2.15v ram
4-4-4-12 timings
rams at 867mhz or something like that
its the b3 quad

runs fine in prime / orth but after say 10mins it will either restart the system or xp will crash the application.

it shows 1.4v in vcore in cpuz and asus's tool... dont know wether to push the vcore more or whatnot?

Noob to over clocking what sort of things should i set etc in bios, i have a q6600 go on a GA-P35C-DS3R and 2GB Geil Ultra Low Latency PC6400 on a Freezer 64 pro, could do with some tips like do i leave it on auto for the fsb voltage/cpu/ram etc or do i set them separately.

Try

Multi x9
fsb 350
pci 101
Memory dividers 2.0

Vcore 1.38
Memory volts +.2

If it boots okay, you can try lowering the vcore.

Right i tried that and it booted ok so lowerd the vcore down to the stock volts its booted into vista fine guess i better try prime or something, or is the vcore to low and should i disable the eist etc options.

The cpu is @ 3159 atm temps on prime95 are 46,45,47,47

Yeah started prime its been going for just under 1 hr and all cores still running and temps at 100% are 47,46,47,48, the only thing is with the divider/fsb the ram is only running at 702mhz.

When i built this i was at my sisters and wasn't able to use my artic siliver paste for the cpu instead i just put the freezer 7 pro on with the paste it came with, would it be worth now putting some artic silver in its place.

Coretemp and everest which both give the same, it prim at 3 hrs at those speeds and all was ok the highest the temps went up to was 50c is that ok or abit toasty.

I have one of those big Tuniq 120 coolers the only problem is the board it was on at the time died and the sticky thing on the back i couldn't get off, now i have found some double sided sticky things i had for sticking the volume controler for speakers, would 4 of those do the job holding the plate on the back of the motherboard.

Tbh I wouldn't pull the cover off the sticky tape. The pad provides an insulating barrier between the backplate and the board. The adhesive just provides a headache when trying to remove it (as you have learned)

My new babi :)

Can't do anything 'till Crucial get my RMA

Hurry up Crucial !
A digital lollipop to the person who figures out
what the cpu was snapped on top of ;)

Would you say it's worth a shot trying to get my Q6600 to 3.2? If so I'll invest in a ultra 120 extreme/scythe sflex fan/AS5 paste.

Remember I have a gigabyte DS3 rev1 F12 bios.
