***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

Anyone had the 6600 Go working at 9x400 in a DS3 v1, or 8x400 even ?

Which DS3 are we talking about? P35 or 965P? If it's a 965P i had mine in a DS3P originally and it would not clock very well at all in it. I had 3.2ghz (8x400) temporarily stable but for some reason the overclock would degrade. This despite it running prime for 12 hours with no fails. In the end the most i could get was 2.8ghz. I just could'nt give the cpu more than 1.375v vcore with that board. Now i have my P5E i hit an easy 3.6ghz. :D

there's no concrete evidence about VID's but it certainly looks like lower VID's are better clockers ...like devious has said though you can still seen the opposite happen too.

i've got a week 38B with a VID of 1.26 which is probably middle of the road in terms of good/bad VID's.

but it's prime stable @ 3.7ghz with only 1.385v in bios so i'm happy pretty happy with it :) haven't had a chance to try further yet.

my E6600 in my sig was a golden stepping for that class and it needed 1.4v for 3.75 so these latest GO Quads are really very nice chips for the money.

Here is a thread with a lot of results from low VID G0's, theres a couple of non believers at first but the consistancy of the greats results eventually sways them :)

Hello, im planning on getting a q6600 GO aswell as an Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650. I dont want any fancy Water cooling, just good old air but also would like to get around 3Ghz out of it. Is it possible with this MOBO?

Thanks, nooby overclocker.

also, could someone point me in the right direction on where to read up on overclocking, thanks.

The VID in core temp will tell you if its a good one or not :)

Well its running at stock on 1v as my CPU cooler is broke so I under volted my B3 so that it wouldn't over heat. Will be pushing the chip once I get my pump and rad sorted tomorrow hopefully.
Aiming for 4ghz ideally, especially if it can be done around 1.5v

Well my vid is 1.275 yet the bloody thing will not go past 3.6ghz. It will not take a fsb of more than 400mhz. 9x400 for 3.6ghz was so easy. Try for 8x450 and it will not boot. I even backed off the multiplier to see if that made a difference but no joy. Even 401mhz is no good. Was thinking of selling it for one of the newer ones to get more. It's really frustrating to have a rig like mine and be stuck at 3.6ghz. Ok it's 24hours Prime stable and temps are mid to high 40's under load, and yes it's 1.2ghz over stock. But i am greedy and want more. :D

Unless you need SLI I would go for the Gigabyte P35 DS3R instead.

not to belittle you but are you positive it's not a board issue?

the fact you are stuck right on 400 makes me think it's a strap/nb/mem issue more than the processor, it's unusual that's for sure.

Hmm I was wondering... what difference is there with an Intel Xeon Quad Core X3220 ? Can you run this processor on a P35 motherboard and is it faster then the Q6600? How about overclocking?

This is the second board it's been in and had more or less the same result. I have tried just about every setting in this boards bios, played with the bewildering array of voltage options, even tried everything up to 500 fsb (dropped the multiplier to 6x) but it will not budge past 400. It's a real shame because like i said already, 3.6ghz was so easy, the temps are really low and i feel like if it could budge past this wall it couls offer so much more. If you have any ideas i would be more than willing to give them a try.

in more than 1 board sounds like it's the processor then, bummer.

still 3.6 is nothing to sneeze at :)

It is when you have high end custom watercooling, your load temps are in the mid to high 40's and 3.6ghz was so easy. Saying that, it is 1.2ghz over stock for free. Might wait for Penryn and get one of those rather than trying for another Q6600 in the hope it will go further.

Been having a play today with my new Q6600 GO OEM.
Had issues overclocking with an nforce board (wouldn't get over 2.7) so changed it for an Asus PK5.

Currently at 3.3Ghz on air - doubt I'll go much higher than this due to temps; currently around 61'C load.
Upped vcore to 1.425 - anything lower fails Prime95 within seconds.
Vdimm is 2.25v (2.2v rated) with slack timings atm.

Currently running Prime95 so will leave it for the next 6 hours unless it fails before then, fingers crossed. Only been running 10 mins so far lol)

Cooling with an Antec900 & Arctic Freezer 7 (was a bugger to fit I thought - much prefer the AMD versions).
