***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

All I can say is hook it up and see how it goes. Every chip is different, but if you download core temp it will show you the VID of your chip and that will indicate its overclocking potential. (lower the better)

Also it depends on what cpu block you have, the D-tek fuzion and Swiftech GTX are the best for quad cores.

I have the Swiftech Apogee GT. It cooled my AMD6000 pretty well, but that was when everything was on one loop.

I've yet to get the system powered up with the new config and 2 loops.

Should be an interesting day tomorrow!

mines stabble as hell at 3.618ghz with 1.392vcore.

But temps on Prime over 1hour get the better of it :( The swifttech storm GT is just dying.

Really really need to get this new rig built with the EK supreme and a PA120.2

I've had the same issue with my P35-DQ6 and sent it off for repair. Did you find a permanent fix to your problem?

I bought an Asus P5K Premium as a replacement in the meantime...
Moved to bios F7b, did a hard clear on the cmos and it's worked perfectly since then, not one problem. :)

Under 1.25 seems to be really good, but there has been some very good results with 1.2625 as shown here

Not many new low VID chips in there though.

Can someone tell me what "VID" is? Cheers.

Edit: Just googled it and found out, apparently its gotta be slightly higher than Vcore, is this right? Going by coretemp, I've got a VID of 1.0v, is this good, bad or indifferent and is it adviseable to raise it slightly (and by how much) if overclocking?
Cheers.

I thought the VID is the default Vcore for that cpu. mine shows 1.23V and thats what the mobo set the V to on auto.

That VID does sound too low though, are you running speedfan at the same time? (seen that mess it up a few times)

Is it normal to have upto 6C difference in the cores?
I put a bit of AS5 on and spread it with a card just see how flat it was and it spread perfect so thought it was pritty flat (dont worry i cleaned it off and applied the right way :))

Idle Temps:

Load temps after a 3DMark run then 30mins of P95

i've always got about 5c difference on average between core 1,2 and core3,4.

i've reapplyed thermal paste for more than 3 times, and core1,2 are always hotter. and when AS5 hasn't been settled yet, i've even had once it's nearly 10c difference.

I'm using the Swiftech Storm which tbh could do with lapping so may do the cpu at the same time.
Think the fact its only running @ 1.25V is helping them temps a lot though?

Cheers wuyanxu, i'll see what the temps are like ounce my AS5 has set :)

In my experience when you first apply arctic silver 5 the temps steadily rise never had temps go down from when i first install never understood the settling in thing.
Am tempted to go quad for supreme commander my 6420 just grinds to a halt soon as 500 units on screen.

The storm is your let down, i have one and it can't handle the temps.

oh sorry, i didnt realize because yours is too hot over 1.4V it means the storm is a bad block :o

Maybe i should set mine up outside when i get to 1.4V? :p
