***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

Im gonna take the plunge with a Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R running a Q6600. Cooled with a Thermalright Ultra-120A. My mate recommended the gigabyte board so fingers crossed.
 
I have a Q6600 G0 on the way.

Does anyone have any experience of overclocking this in a Gigabyte P965 DS3?

If it wont clock as high as my E6300 @ 3.15Ghz then I will probably sell it on as I cant afford a new board atm.

At the moment the G0's seem to range from 1.1625v to 1.3250v, 1.275v being typical.

Intel state the G0 is supposed to be .9 - 1.35v, the lowest value being what all G0's will run at with Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology (Speedstep) and C1E enabled.

Nowhere does Intel state a G0 is 1.275v

What would be ideal temps for running a stock Q6600 with 1.056v going through it?
BIOS says 1.0v, CPU-z says 1.056v under load.

38-36-36-36c under Prime load

Idle isn't much lower than that, think it was 32c
 
Depends on the board tbh, if you have an Asus you’re looking at 3ghz max with any quad, around 340fsb max due to it 3-phase PWM layout, not ideal for Q6600 overclocking.

The Abit and MSI 650i SLI boards use a 4-phase power cycle and better still is the Gigabyte 650i SLI motherboard with 6-phase power for the CPU, with 2 MOSFETs splitting load per phase.

The Gigabyte will give the best quad overclocking results, I have seen one q6600 running at 3.6ghz on the Gigabyte board.
 
It's an EVGA 650i Ultra board, happily runs my E6300 at 2.8 - 3.2ghz depending on voltage and ram timings.

From a little Googling, this board appears to have 'a four-layer design along with six-phase power regulation', I assume this is a good thing?

Nice, that's the review I got my power info from.

I'll be happy if I can get over 3ghz, so it looks like I shouldn't have too much trouble with that, perfect. :)
 
I use, well used an Asus P5N-E 650i board (the most feeble of all 650i boards when it comes to overclocking) and it still gets my Q6600 G0 to 3ghz with just 1.19v, it would run my E6600 happily at 3.8ghz.

TBH coming from that chip to a 3ghz quad core feels like a downgrade 90% of the time, hence why I have ditched the P5N-E for P5K Premium P35 board to get the most out of my G0.
 
A bit of advice needed here, my system is stable in day to day use, vcore is 1.55, i know it's high but it's as solid as a rock.

currently on air with an aeroflower and temps stay below 70 in day to day running, when i run the s & m stress test on it however after 5 mins were up to 75 degrees and i'm uncomftable with that heat so cancel it. (that's at 100% load, at 75% never goes above 70)

at the moment it's not in a case and is sat on a piece of mdf

i'm getting a thermaltake kandelf LCS case in early january and am looking at getting a better waterblock, the cpu is going to be the only thing in the loop.

with a price limit of about £50 for the block what do you reccomend?
