***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

i'm getting a thermaltake kandelf LCS case in early january and am looking at getting a better waterblock, the cpu is going to be the only thing in the loop.

with a price limit of about £50 for the block what do you reccomend?

The EK Supreme is worth checking out, its cheaper than a plain Fuzion and seems to perform very very slightly better when cooling quads. I haven’t seen anyone say not to bother with the nozzle on the Fuzion when cooling a quad so it would seem they do work. Either way there would only be a few degrees in it.

I’m currently using an Alphacool XP Nexxos block, I’m seeing very low temps with my G0 but thats because under load my vcore is dropping well under 1.2v. Almost certain I will need to purchase a new block when I push past 3ghz and up the voltage.

Just testing temps really to see what they are. Really do jump up when voltage is upped to 1.6v when I'm going for 4ghz

Are they average for that clock and volts or a bit high? Under water not air

I’d say that’s spot on, I’m running my G0 at 3ghz with stock vcore under water I’m seeing 26C~ idle and just under 40C running 4 instances of prime (vcore drops to 1.16v). I would say my room is warm at the moment.

Some shocking vdroop on this board but 1.425v in bios, 1.376 in windows and 1.328v!!!!! under full load.

anyway 8 hours prime stable 3.15ghz, ram timings are now 5,5,5,15 and but still @ 525mhz. Also temps are down by 10 degrees now, added the fan back onto my scythe as it was naked when i did this prime run.

Folding 24/7 for last 10 days so i know it's rock solid as well as primed!!

Will be going for more shortly but the vdroop is annoying me!

Something really wrong with my Q6600 (It arrived 2 days ago, set it all up today) See if you can spot it and tell me how to fix it..

I just noticed every so often the window flickers and shows what it should be:

Was just about to ask.. Thanks ;)

Whats your preferred way (BIOS or via a Program) to OC, also, what do you recommend (Application)

Also, I just checked and there's no E1ST/C1E (P35-DS3R Mother Board)

Damn I got an old quad it seems? Still nothing to be too upset about as this chip is part of a build I am doing for a video-editor (and part time gamer!). Kinda wanting one of these low VID chips!

Not sure what the deal with a Intel® P965 Express mobo is but I can't seem to stabilize a Quad-Overclock when its much above 380MHz? Not sure whether its the chipset or the CPU topping out? but I know the board and memory is good up to about 480MHz using a dual core. I noticed that some of the VRMs are super scorching hot while this chip is overclocked and under full prime cpu load.

I think this will be the 24/7 overclock using quiet aircooling. . .

Has anyone got much higher using an Intel® P965 Express Chipset?

I'm having HUGE problems trying to OC. I tried everything that tutorial has to offer but for some reason I F10 out of BIOS, press Y and ENTER (save) but when I open up CPU-Z the clocks are still default. I then tried clockgen since BIOS wasn't working but when I clicked on PLL CONTROL there is no bar to increase.

VID is the default vcore for that particular chip, generally the lower the better but there are exceptions.

The lowest i believe there is so far is 1.200v but can be as high as 1.325v.

You'll need the PLL settings for your board.

But overclock from the BIOS instead.

Does the board try to boot two or three times after saving the BIOS settings? It sounds like it's recovered from a bad overclock if it's still at stock settings when you get back into Windows.
