New bike day.

I can already tell the matt finish is going to be a bore to keep looking good, but I do like it.

As promised @Junglist

New gravel bike. First ride on it was a 100km glorious gravel event and it performed brilliantly. Quite impressed how fast rolling the 42mm tyres are on the road as well. Amazing how much less **** it makes our awful roads feel as well!

Not entirely convinced by 1x for gravel though. I will probably swap it out for a 2x GRX drivetrain at some point if I am going to use it as a winter/gravel bike. The steps between gears are just too large for road cycling and the top end is too low as well. I'm used to an 11/52 top end and this is 11/42. Massive difference and you run out of gears at a reasonably low speed.

@fez i think I’d always go with 2x. Just don’t see the benefit of 1x.
My MTB is 1x10 and there’s just not enough top end for even flat trails. I keep meaning to add a front derailleur at some point as should’ve easy enough.

Yeah, I really can't understand how people wax lyrical about how its the end of the FD for most people. I'm not exactly an elite cyclist but you spin out quite early and find yourself at the wrong cadence a lot on the roads. I understand the appeal of the simplicity and I am 100% behind it for MTBs but for road/gravel its just got too many compromises when you could just have a FD.

Something a bit different.... Engwe P20 ebike sent to review - 60 miles range on a charge, not sur eif that's with full assist or lowest but will find out in due course. First experience with an eBike and the drivetrain is carbon belt driven so no drivetrain to clean/rust in the wet etc which is kinda neat. Love how the motor assists with the slightest of pedal application :d

Got built in headlight/indicators/brake lights too lol.

Depending on how the next week or two goes I may even be interested in the model with fatter off road tyres and suspension

Haha it's more utility I guess than commuting, they also offer a mode to remove the speed limiter on the thumb throttle, obviously only to be used off road etc... :p

Have not had a proper chance to ride it yet but initial pootling about testing it shows 1 bar battery used in 10 miles of riding purely on electric, not pedal assist. So 60 miles from a charge seems to be about right if adding in pedal assist. That's up to 30k miles of service from the batterie's rated lifespan which to be fair isn't bad at all I guess, although the batteries are around £300

I have a right bee in my bonnet about electric bikes lol. But if it's for commuting I suppose I can accept that...... JUST :p

Now put some drop bars on it, a bit more carbon, aero wheels and some Di2 to join in the with cycling bullying I get and you'll be golden :D

  • Haha
Reactions: mrk
They do a tricked out version by the way which has just that, almost :p

Remove the basket thing, swap the seat with something sporty and it would look kinda cool, just a shame it's a traditional drivetrain and not belt drive though as that was the USP of this P20, zero maintenance, just ride inw hateevr weather then hose it down when dirty, no lubrication needed

probably on completely flat, in the easiest assistance.

I guess it has hub gears? I'm in two minds about belts.

I've known them to snap before on EMTBs and you can't just grab a few quick links or whatever for a quick on the road fix
