**** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note 20/Ultra Thread ****

I'm looking at the Samsung Protective clear case also, it's clear but the surround/sides can be had in black or white, looks good and also shows the colour of your phone.

Most significant and noticeable difference on the S20 range was battery life, not sure if they managed to address it with Note 20 as haven't seen many comparisons yet.

Received email code from Samsung offering £30 off: 5DURTUKUSI

Offer ends 30/09/20. Voucher code valid for £30 off Galaxy Tab S7 or Tab S7+, Watch3 or Buds Live. While stocks last. One code per transaction and not valid with other offers, except trade-in. T&Cs apply.

Worth a punt for anyone buying.

Yeah I got that one.
As for the Exynos 990, if the battery life is the same or hopefully better than the Exynos 9825 on the Note 10+ I'll be pleased but not totally satisfied as I'm sure there will be comparison videos out soon and the Exynos 990 will be made to look like a vtech toy!

But overheating is also an issue with exynos?

Quoted in various review sites.

"Outside of the US, Samsung sells their phones with their own Exynos chips instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon. They also use Samsung made camera sensors, instead of the Sony ones in the US version. These parts are inferior, and there are numerous comparisons online. The Exynos phones are slower, have worse battery life, worse camera sensors and processing, get hotter and throttle faster, etc. This maybe wouldn’t be so bad if Samsung were transparent about it, or if we were’t paying the exact same price or even higher than our US friends."

So in summary,

Poor Battery life
Thermal throttling / overheating
Poor gpu performance compared to other flagships (sd865)
Poorer camera sensor

As stated by others in mundane day to day tasks probably not much of an issue, bar battery life. But i would say why buy a flagship if all you are going to do is open Facebook and WhatsApp etc.

Buy a decent midrange like pixel 4a or oneplus nord.

Previous generations the gap wasnt as noticeable, i loved my note 9 which was exynos 9810 and wish i hadn't swapped to a s20+. I get the issues mentioned, battery is awful, it overheats and it just isn't a good as the note 9 it replaced.

Its happening again with the note 20, but the gap will be bigger due to 865+ in other regions.

I'm loving the look of the mi 10 ultra, and would swap if it came to the UK. Which is looking doubtful, not sure about importing one.

Where is the proof that the US get Sony camera parts and not samsung?

I agree with that, which is a bit sad, as I skipped the Note 10 upgrade hoping the Note 20 would be a worthy upgrade from my Note 9. But the features (or lack of them) are just not worth the ridiculous cost of the Note 20 Ultra. And the non-Ultra Note 20 shouldn't even exist in my eyes

And yet the Xiaomi mi 10 Ultra looks a viable upgrade, performance features and cost. Can I manage without the S-pen tho??

I have numerous midrangers, they aren't the same as a flagship, even my slow exynos s10 provides a better experience than the mid to high end Chinese phones I have, they just aren't there on the software, screens, cameras or don't come with appropriate RAM to provide a nice experience. the 12Gb Ultra sent to reviewers sounds like this business but if you can't buy it in the UK it is a bit irrelevant a bit like a sd865 s20.

If you just want to play games I can understand the desire to get the most powerful chip but I am not sure I would want a phone that doesn't cover all bands in UK, how does hunting for signal or reduction in upload/downloads speeds effect this battery life as the phone can't hop on multiple bands, has anyone done any tests on this?

An exynos device is still a flagship.

I've always loved the note series, and have had everyone until the note 9 being my last. I did that due my ever increasing lack of spen use and the fact samsung had started down the path of there not being much difference between the s series and note series spec wise.

Standard, I used to work on chips in the mobile space and they would parallel develop competing tech to either use if it was better or to beat you down on price, ultimate end game is of course not to need third parties and increase margins.

Omg! Early?

We'll deliver your Samsung parcel

TOMORROW

19th August 2020!

Edit: follow up email confirmed it's the Watch3, damn but at least it's not the Buds Live :p
