**** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note 20/Ultra Thread ****

Why not use the Samsung upgrade program, which is basically 24 months interest free and then choose a sim.

With the samsung upgrade program, 12 months from now when the s21 note is out or the normal s21 ultra, can i send it back for the s21 note ultra and just begin a new 24 montsh contract without having to pay the final 12 months on the s20 note ultra off?

So as I see it from the just released reviews. It's the best Samsung phone to date, camera on par or exceeds (zoom wise quality) with latest iPhone but can't touch Google cloud algorithm for improving image after the fact (who can?). But next iPhone will very likely jump ahead again so no point in iPhone users converting.

Not the best Android phone because some people don't like the UI, Samsung bloat ecosystem, very mixed specs depending on your region (8GB RAM, Exynos, 128GB..).

So basically if you buy the Note 20 ultra today, you will pay 10% down then around 35 quid per month for around 23 months then the last payment is 20% which adds up to the full amount.
So this time next year when the Note 21 (or whatever its called) comes out, you will get an email from Samsung asking if you want to upgrade, if you do then they pay the remainder of outstanding balance and you take a new contract out on the new device.

Now this only works from year to year so if you want the Note device now, you cannot upgrade to an S device in 6 months, it has to be the next Note device in 12 months.

Sounds quite appealing, much better than high street contracts. How good are Samsung when it comes to taking your old phone and writing off the rest of your old contract? Any issues I might encounter?

Yeah it isn't too bad a deal really, so they basically buy back your phone by paying off the rest of the balance, so your pretty much getting more than what you would from a high street store for it.
When you buy a phone using the Samsung Update Program, you choose that option when purchasing from their UK website, when you receive the phone your contract starts. In 12 months when the new version of that phone is announced, they send an email and ask if you want to upgrade, if you do, when you receive the new phone you will also receive some return packaging from Samsung within a few days, just bubble wrap the hell out of it and send it away. I have never actually sent a damaged phone back, either cracked screen or any type of damage, they will ask questions before you send the old phone back, so I wouldn't send anything back damaged, other than that it's straight forward, then when they receive the old phone and give it the all clear, the old contract is ended.

Yeah and as feared the Snapdragon 865+ gets up to 20% better battery life than the Exynos 990. No shock there.

That and 20% less performance on multicore and 25% less performance on the gpu.

Shocking really for £1400 and the same phone in other regions get the better soc.

Well to be fair there is no direct comparison with the 2 chipsets for battery life, only CPU and GPU benchmarks so far, there was an Exynos 990 comparison with other phones and in mixed conditions it got 8 hours 20mins, here...

When you check out the Screen res and FHD+ it's not too bad.
Also the base Note 20 Ultra in the UK is £1179.

I'm not excusing the Exynos at all but it's simple, don't buy if you don't like it.

I'm not going to buy it, I made that mistake with the s20 lol. Its a forum and was just joining in the discussion.

In any other sector it would get discussed and pointed out if you were getting less performace or less for your money compared to other countries for the same product.

Yes you are correct and it's not being overlooked at all, it sucks that we get this chipset, it's well and truly below the Snapdragon 865+ and people should know this before they buy it.

How long left to get the headphones?

I've heard the exynos are as good as last years snapdragons? Even with this in mind I should still see a real world improvement compared to my s9+. I wouldn't have considered upgrading but Samsung exchange program letting me swap in 12 months assuming my phone isn't damaged makes this look more appealing. I always use official Samsung protective cases and so far never damaged a single smart phone previously.

And according to a lot of people next year Samsung will have optimised the Exynos 1000?

To be fair the S9/+ are not too bad, the wife absolutely hammers hers with these addictive fruit games and everything is usually left on, bluetooth, wifi, NFC, GPS the lot, and she has her Galaxy watch hooked up to it, she never complains about battery.
Anyway the Exynos 990 will beat the Exynos 9810 in the S9+ easily plus the storage is a lot faster now, there are lots of upgrades from the S9+ and you should notice them immediately. I would tend to agree the Exynos 990 is around the same spec as the Snapdragon 855 from last years Note 10+, not a lot in it either way.
Yes there are rumours about next year with AMD supposedly integrating their GPU within the Exynos chipset but that's just GPU, there is no news about the CPU for next year, or little news about the Exynos 1000 (if it is to be called that) there's a long time between now and the next 'flagship' S model which the next Galaxy Note will be modelled on
