**** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note 20/Ultra Thread ****

Interesting, I'm interested to see it now, can't say I have any complaints on my s10, certainly versus the SD855 phones we have but then they are cheaper handsets from Xiaomi and their software doesn't come close to Samsung.

This whole snapdragon vs exynos thing is a bit overblown, it makes buggerall difference to your daily life and in terms of price of the phone the CPU is such a small part of the equation you might save $5.
.

Battery life affects most phone users and Exynos is worse than snapdragon. There are videos showing the Exynos 990 frame rate tanking and the temperature rocketing compared to SD. If you use your phone for social media, you won’t ever notice, but you’ve still been sold a device with a substandard chip.

I’m not sure your mention of a $5 saving fits into your argument. If the savings are so small, give EU users an SD chip and avoid the bad publicity. Had the S20 series come with a better SoC I’d have bought one. As it is, I’m likely a lost sale now for many years as I’ll probably move to iOS.

Was tempted to exchange 10+ 5G model for Note 20 Ultra & roll over contract with Samsung, mostly because I wanted 120hz but I assumed this would be on max res. Seems it won't, plus the CPU blurb so do feel like maybe another think about it.

May look a Fold 2 as really fancy something 'different' but premium, though that entirely depends on the screen not being made out of soft plastic a finger nail can permanently dent (which is ridiculous)

Really, being worse in gaming would be understandable as cpu and gpu specs differ but photo quality isn't coupled to what the CPU can do is it?

Samsung have a pretty annoying Korean 'beautification' filter that smooths everything out on my Note 10+. With GCam you can get around this and take photos that are great in all lighting conditions.

In Exynos you can get stuffed.

Looks like its the Exynos 990 not the 992 according to most recent leak

Awful decision, that's me out as was hoping to get rid on it in my s20 for this if they had changed soc and reviews were more favourable.

Even more an awful decision if in other regions get the snapdragon 865+ as rumoured.

If you don't do gaming on you device, which I don't, will really notice any difference?

Will the photo/Video quality be inferior?

My understanding is the photo quality etc was worse on the exynos due to the image processor on the soc being inferior too. But don't quote me on that, just remember something I read when researching the differences.

I dont think they were worlds apart though.

Even South Korea is getting the 865+

Just like they did with the 865 and s20 series. That was something I pointed out in the 865 vs exynos argument in the s20 post a while back. If samsung ditch there own processor for the 865 in their home region then they must have had little faith in its performance.

Apparently their shareholders even questioned there decision to use the 990 over the 865 and their staff felt humiliated about it too.

I am keen to see just how much cheaper the base Note20 will be, as you can get the S20+ for well under £1k.
  • 60Hz refresh rate
  • Metal frame but a plastic back
  • Exynos 990
  • 256GB of non-expandable storage

I was looking forward to this as my next upgrade but im a little disappointed.

I hope they come out with a ceramic model.
If I was to get a SD 865+ model would I get all the features of the UK model ?

I'm not touching this if it's exynos. Samsung are really taking the right pi££!. Even in their own country of origin, they are not selling the exynos, that should give a clear indication of how bad the exynos is.

Yeah same here, I've pretty much had all the Notes available to the UK since the Note 2 and the last couple of years have had me thinking twice. When you look at what the US get with a $50 discount on a pre order pre order then all the rest of the discounts with free headphones and a small family car thrown in, then the Snapdragon 865+ to top it off and delivery a few days before us in the UK, we're lucky to get the phone for full price with maybe a Samsung troll sticker thrown in!
