****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II ACCESSORIES Thread***

at a guess, they made it always need usb power because it draws more then you might think, and testing showed that people would not mind at first but eventually stop using it as it left the device dead after 20 minutes. this way they are forcing users to use it wisely so forcing them to have a better experience with it and recommend it more. this is just a guess but i think it's fair to say there is good reasons why they have done it.

I'm not talking about carrying the cable around. I'm confused at why you would always need a micro USB cable plugged in.

The point I was making about the HDMI cable is in the living room moving around with the phone.

It's not exclusive to the GS II MHL cable either, the official HTC cable is exactly the same: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/htc-sensation-mhl-hdmi-out-cable-ac-m490-p29367.htm

If a non branded cable does not have a power port then it's probably cheaper due to that fact and if power does drain fast then well, you're stuck :p

I believe the reason for it is to comply with the MHL spec.

MHL is supposed to charge over the connection. A new MHL TV will charge over the link.

I just realised that that is exactly the reason why. For TV's not natively supporting an MHL connection the power source via separate USB cable is required.

That solves a lot of questions :p

Hmm....mine went on fine without a single bubble. Did you give it a good spray?

The bubbles have now worked out as advertised. However, the screen protector is definitely damaged - it's prisming colours when the screen is on, and you can see the marks when it's off (also there's a prism line below the marks that wasn't there before). Anyone know how to remove screen protectors, because it's going back with a rude note.

Well its a stupid MHL requirement then - HDMI does okay without needing a constant power cable and can run off battery for a while just fine.

It's not a MHL requirement, it's a requirement of the MHL adapter. If you don't want to have a charger plugged in, just buy a standard MHL cable.

The whole point of the adapter is to allow you to plug in a charger.

Case mate ones are all right, nothing special but nothing wrong with them.

If you want 'the best' its currently in dispute whether Martin Fields or Zagg Invisible Shield ones are the best. I've invested in a Martin Fields protector which should be arriving within a week.

13 quid for one screen protector seems a bit steep and an extra 2 quid for shipping lol...

You pay for quality. Personally the idea of spending £15 to have my £500 phones' screen protected by something much stronger than a case mate protector and allowing for much better picture clarity and 'feel' when using the touchscreen is pretty logical.

If you ask for what a good protector is to buy, don't scoff when the best is offered up to you as an option.

Anyway, a martin fields screen protector is not only stronger and 'clearer' (for a better image), it's also washable and reusable. So it'll basically last the lifetime of the phone, damage notwithstanding obviously.
