****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Bare with me because I'm totally new to the Android OS.

I've just ordered a Samsung Galaxy S II from phones4u.

From what I can tell the version it comes with is 2.3.3 ? But the lastest android version is Android 3 (Honeycomb). Coming from an Iphone I could just update to the lastest firmware, is this the case with Android?

Why does the SGS II come with Gingerbread when Honeycomb is the last, will this phone be able to update to the next firmware say in 12 months or so?
Android 3 is for tablets only.
Its strange how they've done it.
The latest phone release is 2.3.4, you'd either have to wait till Samsung release an OTA to update it, OR, hope that a ROM comes along with 2.3.4 and root/put a new ROM on.
Based on the announcement at Googles IO Event yesterday, a Samsung update might not be that far away.
But tbh, the difference between 2.3.1 -> 2.3.4 is just bug fixes mostly. Its the large releases, the 2.4 thats coming, that'll be the bigger change, which is rumoured to be called Ice Cream Sandwich i think.
:)

It's a tablet OS, as a 0.5 second Google would have showed you http://www.google.ch/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=google+honeycomb :)

Honeycomb is the tablet OS, your phone will come with the latest version, don't worry about it :)

Gingerbread is the latest for phones. I think honeycomb is tablet only.

edit: lol, seems I was slightly beaten to this reply!

Ok found them, and if they were sold by amazon direct, I would probably purchase them, but as they're sold in a similar manor to ebay, not sure i'll trust them, especially reading the reviews.. Must be a reason no major retailer is selling them yet.

Home now and checked mine. Seems perfect. All details match those on the Patriot site and packaging was genuine. Sequential write speeds of 13.03MB/s and read of 20.37MB/s. Its covered by a 5 year manufacturers warranty so any problems and it will just go back

Ok that's interesting to know, thanks, I might order it then based on your feedback :)

Infact scrub "might" lol
