****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I too have a SGS2 from tmobile and to save waiting for tmobile to pull their finger out with releasing updates I decided to debrand the device, root it and also upgrade the firmware.

You may not want to root ur phone but I would recommend debranding it by following this guide:

Then follow this guide to update the firmware, you can also follow it if you want to root your phone:

The latest firmware is KE7 btw

On that last link is a list of the firmware and their kernals so all I did is download my original one which was KE3 so I can rebrand and deroot if necessary.

I love the battery on this. Over the past week i've endured two 18 hour coach journeys. On both i watched several entire episodes of dexter, played drag race to death, listened to music, used the satnav frequently to determine how far we were and just generally played with it. At the end of both journeys there was still plenty of battery left whereas both iphone4s, an iphone3 and a desire owned by friends had long run out of juice.

By the end of our weeklong holiday people were just borrowing my SGS2 to check their emails/facebook rather than their own iphones as they preferred it so much. Out of the 7 i travelled with three are going to be getting a SGS2 within the next month now. Samsung really have nailed it.

ARGH! Posts like this make me want to punch someone at Samsung in the face  :D

That said, I am still determined to find out why "Android OS" is draining my battery (as evidenced by my spreadsheets - the geek in me requires I do it :D).

Streeteh, do you use TouchWiz, or a different launcher?

I use launcher pro. I've also not touched any of the hubs as i found configuring the social hub just soaked up battery. Keep in mind i used the phone carefully, so for example when watching a video or playing a game i switched on flight mode, i also was sure to set the brightness manually as i found auto would often whack the brightness up more than needed, especially in dark conditions.

How odd - I could only see half your post before I quoted it!

Anyway, the reason I ask is that the *#*#4636#*#* battery info seems to point at TouchWiz being a very high user of battery (obviously :D), so I'm gonna test later with a different launcher.

As i use a password for my phone the lockscreen app as a bit pointless for me as entering the password ruins the 'smoothness' of it.

Beautiful widgets is great for the huge range of choices for the weather/clock widgets. It's not essential but it makes things prettier.

Having come from an iphone to the Samsung and it being my first Android phone, i don't think i'm doing too badly. In the past 4 days I've flashed and rooted it, changed the lock screen and installed add launcher. I love this phone!

Amazing... battery only lost 2% over 8 hours of idle when I was.in bed... around 26 hours and it was still at 30%. I just can't get over how godo.the battery is... god knows how long.it'll last when the.honeymoon period is.over and I stop fiddling around with it constantly... I reckon 3 days or so. :o

I thought by flashing firmware to latest version it automatically debrands? For example o2 phones only go up to KE2 currently and having read on here that if you flash manually to KE7 it will debrand. So there should be no need to go through the debranding process before flashing to latest firmware?
