****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I was at the Gadget Show today and they had these on demo, so naturally I had a good play with one. Its very quick and the screen is very impressive. However, for me its too big and it doesn't scream that its a premium product.

I have to say when I initially read up on the original SGS the comments about build quality put me off, it was only after using one for a while that I realised that it's a subjective topic, my gf has a desire which does feel solid in comparison but to me I equate premium with low weight. My sgs isn't flimsy, controls feel solid design wise it has a nod to the iphone but that's no bad thing as apple do design extremely well. By comparison my brother's desire hd feels nasty to me, don't like the build or look of it, some of the plastics look and feel cheap next to my sgs.

If the sgs2 is on a par with the original i'd be more than happy. Not too sure about size though I think a 4" screen is the perfect form factor on smartphones.

I wouldn't buy a phone based on build quality I buy it on what it does and from what we can see the GS2 does it all better than the competition so far.

We all put cases on are phones so what difference does it make how it feels without one, I don't get the build quality thing its whats under the hood that is important to me.

But if you are spending around £400 you would want something solid that would last a long time.
Personally i hate cases on phones.

This.

The build quality of Samsung phones isn't really what gets called into question, many people just dislike the plastic feel of them, it doesn't mean they are poorly made.

Did it feel cheap and plasticky at all like a few people have said?

Compared to my DHD, it did feel plasticky but not so much that I wouldn't want one. The main benefit is that it does make the phone very light. Like Robbo says, it's a matter of taste.

Very nice vid:D

Come one geeza give us a bit more than that:) what difference is there between your phone for example. feel of the phone, responsiveness , screen etc...come on back and finish what you started lol.

It felt a bit more responsive than my phone and the screen was very nice, although having watched a video on the Xperia Arc, I wasn't quite as impressed. The guy mentioned that the battery was around 1600 mAh which is amazing given that the one on my DHD is so poor (my phone died that day despite it being off most of the time ). There were some gimmicky features he was also showing me which uses the inbuilt accelerometer to scroll through the home windows. I can definitely see it being a good phone. The build doesn't seem as robust as my DHD but it wasn't bad at all. It's more that the DHD is above average in this department. The phone is so light and thin that I wouldn't really mark it down for it though.

Any word on what battery life will be like with these dual core handsets? Some say the CPU will use more power, others say that it shouldn't make a difference because the CPU is essentially more efficient.

Just follow the Android standard of a days use, and anything better will be a bonus.

It will use equal or less power, not more (hopefully).

The SAMOLED+ screen on the SGS2 in particular should use less power than LCD and older LED screens too.

It should be a great battery on this, we'll see.

How do people Find T-Mobile? Thinking about moving to them from Orange for the SGS2 as the network connection is far too unreliable on Orange at the moment, clogged up masts I presume.

I'm finding it difficult picking a network though, it seems the different networks each have something I desire from a plan but no perfect combination of 18 months, good network reliability and connectivity, 300 mins, unlimited texts and at least 500mb at around £30.

T-Mobile have come the closest but I've no idea of their reliability for net connection.

Hmm, well I get two-ish days out of my Hero, so having to charge it every day would be annoying.

It depends entirely on how you set it up and how much you use it, I get 3-4 days out of my iPhone 4 and I got 2ish days out of my Desire HD with similar (moderate-ish) use.

Two days with light-moderate use for the SGS2 should be no problem at all.

T-Mobile are very good :)

Around the Bristol central area, T-Mobile gives me speeds of around 3Mbit average and no reliability problems. Not sure about Manchester, but since that's a big city as well, maybe the performance is similar.

Also loving my contract from them (Christmas special), 300 minutes, unlimited Internet (1GB) and unlimited texts for £7.50 a month :p - paired with my Desire, win win.

Cheers for the thoughts on T-Mobile, I'll have a browse on a friends T-Mobile Desire in the week and see how the performance is I think, sounds like that may be the way to go come May 1st :D
