****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I found it funny about 3 years ago, I have an iP4..think they are great phones (given the have an age on them)..doesnt stop me trying out other Mobile Os's and handsets, and it has nothing to do with the thread.

I'm fwapping!

The morons at my local CPW won't confirm if they will have the phone in stock on launch day because they can't break NDA. I said to them that I'm not asking for the launch date just if they'll have it in stock and the silly lady wouldn't budge so I said fine I'm just going to go ahead and pre-order the two I was going to buy here online instead.

I only made that pic 10 minutes ago

Jesus H Christ, it was a play on Jobs saying the iPad was "way better than a smartphone", it's a light joke not some kind of political statement or attack on Apple.

Lovely!

2 things, can you check to see if this has NFC and secondly, your views on audio quality via headphones compared to your iPhone.

Many thanks

Don't think this has been answered but I can't see any sign of NFC on mine, battery cover is just plain plastic, no settings or anything, shame but I can live without :p

Burger and chips now finished.

Samsung still written on the front top of the phone.

Bought it under Contract to Orange 24 months, so phone came for free.

Currently going through the google set up process singing in with my Google account.

As a note before I give some first impressions I'm moving to this from an iPhone 3GS.

Small Black Box, similar in style but not as shiny as an iPhone box
In box is the phone
in-ear headphone with mic and different size ear buds, much better than the standard iphone earphones. Though not tested their sound quality yet.
Power plug and cable
USB Power cable
Manual
Battery

1st Impressions.
Pro's
Nice, big, bright screen.
Very Light
Very thin
Back of battery cover feels like it's made of cheap plastic/cardboard when off the phone, though does feel better when replaced onto phone.

Initially it feels cheaper than the iPhone, I think this is down to the weight being so much lighter.

At Having problems connecting to my home wifi, I have two routers in the house and it won't connect to the one in my study, though will connect to the one in the back of the house.

Have signed into my google account and have now gone into the main scree. Orange have switched on my Sim, so have received some messages and the message screen looks good.

Main Screen

Apps Screen

Off to fully set it up, with contacts, music, film etc. So will probably post back a fuller review tomorrow after I've had a good play with it.

Can you do a system dump mate?

Moronic? Or not breaking a legal agreement with a major supplier?

What? Asking a store if they will stock an item when it's launched is breaking NDA? I didn't ask for launch date or device specifics. Dude I've never signed an NDA agreement that would be breached by answering that question.

Ah, sorry mate - I misread your post, thought you had said that you were asking for a launch date when in fact you said that you weren't asking for a launch date. My bad.

Note to self - read threads before making snide comments.

????? What do you mean full system dump????

No Sign of NFC on mine.

Sound Quality - Just compared my Iphone and new S2.
Had settings for both on out of the box settings, with no equaliser changes, both using my Seinheisser CX300II's

The iPhone sounds like it has more top end (Treble), whereas the S2 has more bottom end bass, possibly sounds a bit flatter than the iPhone. Will do some playing with the settings tomorrow.

Screen is amazing, the clarity is brilliant.
The Wifi Synching is good, much better than having to plug it into a cable everytime I want to Synch.

Don't like the unlock screen very much, doesn't always seem to react to my unlock swipe.

Social Hub is great if you use facebook, twitter, linked in etc.

Downloaded and played Angry Birds RIO and it looks great on the bog screen.

Annoyances at present are synching my Outlook contacts to it, doesn't seem to be an easy way to get them onto the phone and get the phone numbers into against the contacts without re-typing them.

Overall, Phone seems better in functionality, screen , speed than my 3GS, but I'm still not totally happy with the feel of it, still feels a little cheaper than the iPhone which always felt like a premium phone when you held it.

Will give further updates tomorrow afte a real day of use and calls.

Supertaff, transfer contacts from Outlook in to iTunes and then to your Google account. Then sync from Google to SGS2. You can tidy up any missing or incorrect info online in Google Contacts.

I moved from a 3GS to a Nexus S. At first it also felt a little cheap but you'll get used to the lightness. Also, you'll soon be too busy admiring the display to notice what the rest of the phone looks like.

You mentioned an issue connecting to one of your routers. Any other WiFi issues like low signal strength (as mentioned in techradar's review) or losing all connectivity when switching from 3G to WiFi. Big problems on the Nexus S and really annoying.

If you could do a quick test for me. Turn off WiFi, browse on 3G for a few mins. Enable WiFi and then load a new page or refresh an open one. On the Nexus S it could take up to 2 mins to respond. Switching Airplane mode on/off fixed it if you were in a hurry.

As already mentioned, low WiFi signal strength. The Nexus S has a low power antenna to save battery, hope this isn't the same with the SGS2. Have you tested this?

And lastly, what's transfer rate from using Wifi Direct (kies) or copying from a DLNA server is Windows 7 share (techrader mentioned W7, is this correct? Can you browse the Network?)
