****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Just got in from local P4U, and what a worthless company they are.

We can't sell you it on contract, only SIM Free, lucky for me that's what I wanted.
This model is non returnable etc etc, so nodded my head and paid.

I would have walked out without the phone had I wanted a contract with these guys after that brief chat.

Going to troll my local P4U see if I can convince them to sell it sim free.

I just got off the phone with Expansys and they have confirmed for me that their phones will have the NFC chip :)

Samsung have said the NFC version will be thicker, and Expansys quote the standard dimensions on their site, which is odd.

As far as I understand it, there isn't really an NFC version around at the moment due to this. We'll see though :)

Some video samples at 1080p and 720 would be superb tbh, that's the main deal for me! Obviously not much can be shown over the web for screen quality but I can always go in a store and have a play for that :D

Thanks!

I use Go Launcher EX which I find much better than LP although I have LP Pro anyway so I will just use Go.

I really wouldn't believe anything they say about the S2 at the moment. They're all speaking out of their ass, none of them know NOTHING! I've called up 5 times today and each time I get a different response, "yes it will be in stock tomorrow", "will be in stock 7-14 days", "still no stock confirmation date" and finally "we have no idea".

Just picked one up from P4U near me and got 1200mins and unlimited text and 750mb data for the same price so happy as its was a better deal and the bonus its unbranded and unlocked.

I just phoned O2 and they said they had no date :D

Will try again tomorrow :p

Haha! I spoke to 2 different people, the first lady in upgrades was not sure she had thought June but went and checked, and told me the 28th, then she put me through to retentions and he told me straight away that it was the 28th. so it seemed like new information to them.

SKILL - Is there an option to turn on the rotation animation in the browser?

Guessing you mean a nice animation rather than quickly shifting from portrait to landscape? if so I can't see any option, does it pretty much instantly though

SKILL how much memory does 1 min of 1080p recording take up? I'm getting a free 8GB card with my phone but was thinking of getting a 32GB card given how big 1080p movies are usually.

103Mb it seems, just did a scan around my room whilst waiting for the timer to reach a minute,

The camera app also tells you how long you've got based on storage space, with a (iirc) empty phone storage which is 11.50Gb it says I can record for 1:23.17, with my 8Gb microsd card it says 1:03.42

Well I have the guys details who confirmed this, and it says on their website that it has NFC... so will kick up a fuss if this is wrong ;)

What cases are people getting for theirs? I was just looking at the Case Mate ones :)

hmm might buy out the remaining 11 months on my contract (24month contract) for this phone if i can get it free/cheap from o2....given that i can sell my desire on ebay and make most of what iv lost back. seems pretty win/win to me???

I'm not surprised, orange are rubbish at bringing new phones out, they just love to faff with them.

Just done a small sample video its currently uploading will post link when its done and finalized.

I can confirm it is 30fps and the bit rate is 17268 so nice and high.

From the Techradar review for those who can't view at work etc

"And so we come to the end of our epic Samsung Galaxy S2 review – and we know some of you might have jumped straight here to see what we think.

However, if you're considering purchasing this phone, we recommend you take a look through our review, as there's a lot to cover in the new phone and we wouldn't want you to miss anything now, would we?

But if you're after a one-word summary of the Samsung Galaxy S2: awesome. We've been waiting for a phone to set a benchmark among the dual-core breed, and we've found it in the Samsung Galaxy S2.

We liked

*clears throat* We liked nigh-on EVERYTHING on the Samsung Galaxy S2. It's rare we get to evangelise a handset so much – in fact we haven't managed to do so since we opened the box on the HTC Desire and realised a slick experience could live outside the iPhone.

But with the Samsung Galaxy S2, things have been ratcheted up a notch. The Super AMOLED plus screen, with improved sub-pixel density, is a joy to behold, and the 4.3-inch screen size is made palatable for smaller hands thanks to the ridiculously thin dimensions.

The lightning fast reaction time of the phone was amazing too – we're talking nothing else on the market that can come close, and it easily eclipses the Motorola Atrix and LG Optimus 2X when it comes to sheer zip.

The pre-loaded applications, including the task manager and Polaris Office Suite, are for the most part excellent additions, and the sheer range of connectivity made the Galaxy S2 a fully-fledged phone out of the box."

"You only need to look at the disparity between the things we liked and things we didn't to see what this phone is all about – and if we're honest, some of those dislikes wouldn't have made it into most phone reviews, but we didn't want it to look ridiculous.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is a phone we're excited to whip out in a pub and show off to our friends – it's the ultimate media mobile, the next generation in web browsing thanks to slick Flash integration, a very good replacement for a pocket camcorder and, goshdarnit, it makes calls pretty well too.

If you're at the higher end of phone contracts already, we insist you must check this phone out. If you're more of a budget user, you might want to get the Samsung Galaxy Ace (which is essentially an S2 Mini) but steer clear of any friends that have the full S2 – you'll be green with envy in no time.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has not only set a new bar for smartphones in 2011; it's smashed the bar, recreated it in its own image and put it out of reach of the competition."
