****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

just updated with the official 4.0.4 and then rooted with siyah latest kernel, seems decent not much difference between it and 4.0.3

i know wha'ts EU, i meant like many UK won't ship to other EU countries...open market my a** :D

fylingpig: which CM10 and how to install siyah kernel? :)

There are only experimental CM10 ROM's available for the S2 at this moment, see http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommana...t&name=codeworkx&deviceName=Samsung Galaxy S2 and the XDA thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794758

I am still running one from early August, might upgrade again soon, but the sluggishness seems to have gone with the Siyah kernel. To download that one, just go to http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/08/05/siyahkernel-s2-v4-0/ (just download the zip and flash in CWM)
There is a newer version available too, but that is not deemed stable yet.

No, don't have to install anything, which is why I suggested it  As long as your phone is already rooted it should work.

I used it when my screen was completely broken (showed nothing on the screen and did not respond to anything).

Hmmm interesttttting. So i've flashed a CM9 ROM and managed to get Screencast working in that I can see the screen, but can't use the keyboard or mouse.

One of the things mentioned in the instructions is going into the adb shell and using su commands to change the permissions on some of the folders - however i'm getting access denied... which i THINK is because my phone is now at the lock screen (i'm presuming CM9 would come pre-rooted?). Clearly I can't get out of the lockscreen, as my touchscreen doesn't work lol :(

Additionally, if i DO need to run these permission "fixes" I think there's a "do you want to allow ...... superuser permissions" prompt i'll have to click, before it'll allow it! lol

EDIT: Okay so i re-flashed (so i could get back to the non-locked homescreen) and i can see a popup that says "Shell" has been denied superuser rights" :(

Hi guys, I used Kies before to try and update to ICS and it froze half way through, then tried to recover it and it failed that too. Now it's stuck on a screen with a phone symbol and computer with dotted lines going through it.

Tried pressing volume up, home and power but nothing.

Can anyone help?

have you tried pulling battery then volume up, home and power?

Yep, tried for ages to make sure I was holding the buttons right too but still nothing :(

It can be a pain in the backside, if your 100% sure it doesn't work you'll have to take it in for a repair. I still wouldn't be sure though.

Where are you located in case someone knows somewhere you can take it for a second opinion? :)

Huzzah, I managed to manually hax0r it and reset the counter back to 0, all via ADB and a non-functioning screen :D

Currently waiting for a warranty repair! :D

Got bored of CM9

Using

Chameleon v1.1 ROM. Based on latest 4.0.4 FW. The looks of AOSP

Phenomanal 6.1 Extreme kernel.

My signal seems to be poor compared to before. Had a mast issue a while back, signal hasn't been the same since that. Tried several modems too!

I'm using Paranoid Android and it's great. Love the tablet UI on a few apps and the ability to change the density on a per app basis. It also flashed over the top of a CM10 nightly very nicely.

Worth checking out that's for sure.

I just saw a Samsung upgrade ad in the paper and was wondering whether it was pay for an upgrade to s3 and recieve a free tab 2 or whether its trade in your s2 for a tab 2 since its what the site currently looks like.

From my take on it......

You buy an SIII, select what you are trading in (SII for example as that is my case). You are then going to get a shiny new Galaxy Tab 2 7" back for your SII handset.

Suppose you could sell the Tab 2 on to recoup some of the outlay for having to buy an SIII or just keep it.

Other offers are iPhone 4 16/32 GB> Tab 2 7" and iPhone 4S>Tab 2 7" or 10.1"

Not a bad deal really...just gonna go look see how much a SIM free SIII is now....

edit 1: Just looked at the T&C's and it says that the phone must be in working order and not blacklisted.......no mentioning of 'must have a stock ROM' on there :)

edit 2: The chances of this being a Genuine Product........my guess is zero. Seems average price is around £450 - 500. £180 - 200 for the Tab 2 7 still leaves a fairly big hole in your pocket. Good idea if you are going to upgrade to an SIII anyway, you are gettign something for your pain, but cant see it as a 'OMG I MUST DASH OUT NOW AND BUY AN SIII FOR THIS DEAL' type of thing
