***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

IMO 1280x720 (306 PPI) would be just fine but if they're able to go higher than that, why not keep up with the market standards?

As much as I like higher specs, a screen with that resolution would probably not make the most of it as text would be just too small, so you'd end up sizing it up, and may as well just use the cheaper 720p size.

Plus it would take a lot more processing power to push games onto it, so would the performance hit be noticeable? We'll probably end up seeing 1080p screens in a couple of years, but I don't think we'll see them this round.

It seems very unlikely that they would release a 1920x1080 AMOLED display this quickly on large scale.

Yeah, does seem unlikely. Would be good for outputting to hd screens and for reducing the loss of sharpness due to pentile amoled though. A non-pentile 720p screen would be nice.

I'd be surprised if the display on the SGSIII was pentile to be honest. I think most of the money is on a 720p non-pentile SAMOLED.

Absolutely, it's a fantastic handset and I've really grown to love it over the last 9 months. It's so good I can see me just dropping down to a SIM only when the contract is up in July.

I agree - this years new phones won't be as bigger jump compared to 2010-2011. For me Desire --> SGS2.

The thing is, there are only so many things you can do on a phone that require the silly amounts of power we're now able to produce.

Who actually needs quad-core in a phone? I doubt anybody really does.

the quad core Tegra 3 is hardly any faster than a Exynos anyhow. A15's will be the noticeable step up but that's not coming for a while yet.

I'm waiting for a great camera/vid cam, big battery, great samoledHD screen, 32gb+ memory, lush design etc.

i was actually thinking that.. :/ my s2 seems to do everything as quick as it needs really there's no lag no waiting time or anything like that so where is the need for that? battery improvements is what we need.

I've just fired up my old Omnia 7 to try and put myself off buying a Lumia 800 (:p) and it's still very quick despite being released toward the end of 2010.

dual core bought battery improvements - there's every possibility quad core will do the same thing.

most dual core's were A9's which is which is a big reason why we saw battery improvement's over old A8 and scorpion cores.

Quad core A9's at the same die size will show next to no battery improvement, however the new exynos at 32nm will be decent in helping battery life. That's all down to fab size.

The SGS III looks like it's going to be my next purchase... I don't need ot know the official specs, I now simply personally rate Samsung as the premium Android handset manufacturer above all others base don their delivery of consistently awesome tech in the mobile and tablet world over the last couple of years.

In comparison to BGR's slightly exagerrated specs, this from GSM Arena looks more realistic http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii-4238.php

The next Exynos chipset being a dual-core has been talked about for a while now... and while I know Quads exist and will likely be out this year at some point, I would be perfectly happy with a beefed up dual-core that will in all likelihood be faster than a Tegra 3 anyhow, given that Quad core is basically marketing spiel in phones, and the only benefit it gives is in battery life, but thats only due to the companion core. Samsung can put real processing muscle into their chipsets as they have already proved with the first-gen Exynos, and there is no reason whatsoever why their next dual-core will not be a monster.

As for the screen... I think a downscaled version of the Galaxy Tab 7.7's screen looks a good bet... 1200x800 in resolution, not 1080p as it would require a redesign of their current tech, as well as be a waste of space on a screen so small.

my contract will be up for renewal in early Summer... I really hope its out then! :)

A 4 page 'official' thread on a phone that doesn't exist yet!?

Sometimes you really don't across as the brightest spark. :p

Rumour and speculation are abound with this phone, and discussion is rife on all phone forums. Same happens with almost any massively anticipated phone release. Business as usual.
