***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Wellllll excited, just got a despatched email from phones 4 u for my blue s3, glad I waited.
Shame its being posted to my billing address.

So I got one of these phones yesterday because my iPhone 4 was on its last legs. However I have been on iOS since iOS1 and I have never used Android.

I've learnt my way around the OS, how to transfer files, messed with the settings and rooted it by following a tutorial.

Now I would like to know what can I do with rooting? How do I change the shortcuts on the lockscreen? How do I remove useless bloatware? What is the best web browser / music player?

Hopefully someone can answer those questions :)

Adfree from the Play Store to remove adverts in Games.

Titantium Backup to Backup apps/games and you can freeze stuff in there.

When did you order your phone? I also ordered from p4u 2 weeks ago and still waiting for update.

Pah, you can get this phone on mobiles.co.uk on T-Mobile for £26 a month. When you factor in redemption, and £30 back from Quidco, it comes to £555 for the phone, and a good 24month deal (300 mins, 750mb data)

Not if you got the Three £10 a month sim only with £100 cashback deal that expired a few days ago (£20 for a years contract with 300 mins, 1000's of texts and 1gb data) :D

I wouldnt call that good - the data cap is a bit poor.

There seems to be no way to get a good data allowace combined with a low usage of text/mins, I hit 700mb without trying, and my phone latches onto mine and friends routers when in range...

The annoying thing is I could get away with many less texts and mins, but then, they (phone companies) know that, so the one plan from 3 is the only realistic option for me.

Interested in getting an MHL adaptor to hook this upto my TV. Does anyone have any suggestions in particular?

Will any MHL to HDMI work, or is there any kind of phone specificness built into then?

Have any of you come from an iPhone 4S to this phone? If so, what are your thoughts? Better/worse? Easy to get used to?

It spanks the 4S.

Spanks it? Nah! :p

The main difference hardware wise is the screen, which is obviously a lot bigger on the S3. This doesn't automatically mean everyone will prefer it.

Performance wise they are similar. Camera wise, fairly even. Video recording, fairly even.

Battery life wise (ignoring people with dodgy battery issues), roughly even.

Software side of things - totally personal choice. Design? iPhone is a lot nicer.

+1 on that deal, I got it for the missus. If I hadn't have transferred my number to giffgaff I would have probably ordered a second s3 on the above deal for myself.

It does spank it imo, after using an S3 you can never really go back to a 4S, whereas going from a 4S to an S3 is a massive step up. If you had to choose just one device from the two, it would be the S3 every day of the week, let's be honest.

As much as I dislike itunes and certain features (or lack off) of Apple products, you have to give credit where credit is due and I've always said that in terms of pure smoothness and responsiveness, nothing touches the iphone/ipad screen - I had my iP4 for a year, my brother has recently purchased the new ipad. My S2 didnt match it, neither does my Note. I think the S3 does, so the gap has closed there. The only real thing left is the premium feel of the iPhones, no one will deny that but the design/ergonomics of the S3 make it feel really good in your hand.

On paper and in terms of specs they may be similar in certain things like the camera, but every time I see an iphone now (both my sisters have one so I see it a lot) it seems like it is shrinking. :p

If you had to choose one device, it's a no contest. :)

BTW Robbo, have you played on an S3 yet?

Edit: The battery life on the S3 is absolutely brilliant, no exaggeration at all but I get 2 days from light use on it. Both my sisters who have iPhone 4s need to carry a charger everywhere they go.

Fair enough, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion.

I haven't actually tried one yet and if I had to choose one device it would be the S3, yes. However, my point is that due to the generally small difference and personal preference, you can't clearly call one as better than the other. I know a huge number of people who complain about the size of the S2, never mind the One X and S3, they'd never even consider them!

I can't see it being so good that I'll think it blows the 4S away though, but from an Android preference perspective it definitely does.

I'm too scared to go and try one as if I like it I'll have to buy it. :( :p

Has anyone rooted yet? Is there a decent guide. I followed a couple but hasn't done the trick. All the root kernels are for xxale8 firmware. Are all s3's this firmware currently?

It's the best phone I've ever used, it's really good! I can't believe how horrible it looked in the pics when they first announced it :/ My Note + giffgaff is great for me and it's preventing me from buying one, plus the fact I keep hogging my wifes S3 means I don't have a huge itch to get it but if I was a man of several phones, I'd be ashamed if this wasn't one of them. :D

Your comments about the Note being 'offensively large' kinda hold true in that the S3 manages to take what seems like 90% of the screen of the Note yet feel almost half the size in your hand, with it being so lightweight and slim and due to the design.

Yeah, the other reason I haven't rushed to the shop yet is that I want the blue one really. All aspects of the design have more or less grown on me now, if it looks even better in the flesh then I'll be rather happy.

If they give me the choice (hopefully), I'll take a blue one, although I wouldn't mind either way due to the fact that I'll be using a case.

I'm seriously being tempted away from Apple by this phone. I've had a iPhone for the last 4 years and have always been very happy. I've also bought over 400 Apps off the App store. I do own a new iPad so I'll still have access to the App store and my Apps if I did go over to Android.

The things that are tempting me are Screen size - I would love a large screen and no way will Apple offer this kind of size, Price - All that power for much less than an iPhone, Being able to use a memory card and swap batteries just wow :)

Only negative for me is Google Play it just doesn't even come close to the App Store and yes I do use the Market on my Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.
