***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Guys does anyone else have the ink/bad pixel effect i was on about on a black screen in the dark?

I googled it and there was a thread about someone else with it and people saying they had same on s2 and nexus and its just samoled but i dont see how one hand 'blacks are so amazing on amoled forget the one x screen' but then have weird ink like splotches on it?

Tried to get a photo but i cldnt get my desire to take a good one will try to find that other guys one and post it. But if you could go into a dark room and just google 'black page' and look at the first image, see if your screen is clear?

The PS Vita suffers from this (5" AMOLED), I imagine it's an AMOLED thing.

yea my vita does this, not noticed on phone yet!

i originally thought i had pushed too hard when applying the screen protector but i think its normal. its like slight smudgey blotches on the black screen as it shines in the dark, not noticeable in light

Can you explain how to replicate the blotches? I've not noticed it on any amoled device I've owned or used. My entire phone theme is all black too.

It only appears if you are taking photos of black cats in the cellar with no flash

;)

Last nights battery usage. Not really done anything but did disable some standard apps that I didn't like the look of, and did a restart a few hours before.

Well i was just looking at my phone last night in the dark and noticed it when a video was loading. So went onto google and looked for a 'black' image and can see splotches and lines on my screen.

So get urself into a dark room and then look at a black screen. Not sure if i should try to get it replaced or not now.

Also i still cant find anyone from 3 that seems to have a clue how to sort anything. My data is awful, below 1meg down most speedtests, youtube buffering etc. Certainly not worth the 34 a month.

Afraid its far more noticeable than that matey, else i wouldnt have commented on it. I am horrendously colourblind so dont normally notice diff shades etc but i saw it easily last night. Can only imagine others have better screens if havent noticed which makes me more inclined to swap it if i can.

im starting to fear taking this to work on Wednesday! i'm a mechanical engineer and get dirty hands all day so starting to worry about the phone getting dirty/marked!

whats the best case out there? the phones for u chap gave me a starter kit (screen protector etc) and a rear cover, but wouldn't mind something a bit more protective for work!

Simulatorman's accessories thread has some good pointers, though in your case looking to see if Otterbox have a case for the S3 would be a good idea, if they don't gave a case looking around their site and seeing if Eb have similar cases is one avenue.

Spanks it? Nah! :p

The main difference hardware wise is the screen, which is obviously a lot bigger on the S3. This doesn't automatically mean everyone will prefer it.

Performance wise they are similar. Camera wise, fairly even. Video recording, fairly even.

Battery life wise (ignoring people with dodgy battery issues), roughly even.

Software side of things - totally personal choice. Design? iPhone is a lot nicer.

Your selective objectiveness never fails to crack me up Robbo - keep it up old boy :D

Thanks, but I added that part in as an edit a few minutes after! :p

For all the stick Apple get, I've never seen anyone call the iPhone 4 design ugly, but I've seen plenty of people call the various screen sizes too big.

:D

Maybe not flat out ugly but plenty of people have stated how horrible it is to use / hold (uncomfortable sharp edges , doesnt sit nicely in the hand), badly design as the slightest knock / drop results in shattered front screen / back.

Design isnt just visual appeal :p

I'm aware of that. At the size though the ergonomics shouldn't really be an issue, if the phone was bigger it could create issues however. See the video I posted earlier with regards to shattering!

It's all pretty much down to luck.

So I finally bothered to see how much data I use because if I put £10 cred on my Ace I get 150mb free it usually loses that in a week or so doing nowt much, so when I see people discussing contracts with much less than 1gb I always think "why have a smart phone".

In the last 2.5 days I've used 109mb on my Note, in that time I haven't downloaded music or movies or watched tv except a couple of mins to test it.

To feel secure that I'll stay within plan I would want an absolute minimum of 5gb or accept that my plan cost is only the start point and add another £10/20 for data usage at typical VF rates.

"I've got possibly the best phone in the world atm but I strangle frek out of it to save £5 a month on my contract cost" doesn't make sense to me:confused:

I do like the irony that the iPhone4 does in fact look like an ice cream sandwich.
