***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Quick, simple question: Is this the best phone available at the moment?

If so, is there anything coming out soon which would be better?

If not, which is the best phone available?

I don't want an iPhone, and can upgrade to this phone through t-mobile.

Thanks. :D

Quick, simple answer: Yes :)

The next round of phones due that should be better are toward the end of the year when the 'Nexus 5' are announced.

Exactly when my contract ends. Perhaps it'll be worth replacing the S3 with one of the 5? :D

In other news, I hope somebody manages to get USB mass storage working soon! This MTP malarky is awful.

MTP is rather straight forward though on the S2 and S3, I connect the phone to my PC, it shows up in My Computer, I transfer files back and forth at a rather speedy rate. No drivers were needed to be installed manually!

Went and picked up my phone. Surprised how light it is! Looks good so far.

Unfortunately, it has a little crack in the bottom of the glass. It bugs me a bit but then I can't complain - I did get the phone for free! :)

Definitely a very fine crack as I can't even feel it. Oh well, I'll be having a case + screen protector on anyway so it shouldn't be too much trouble.

Just been offered a deal for a half price handset on the same contract im on for an extension of 12 months (I don't do 24 month contracts)... reckon i'll order tonight. :)

Does anyone know if the 2000mAh extended battery for the S2 will run the S3...just as a spare??

I know it's slightly lower power than the 2100mAh of the standard S3 battery, but if the thickness of it was ok and the contacts are the same position, it would do for emergency situations.....

Google the battery model numbers for each phone, if they are the same then theres your answer.

Doubt the models will be the same due to different capacities.

I'll check the batteries tomorrow though because if even the official non extended one fits in the contact area then the extended will fit as it's only a mm or so fatter.

If storage, 1080P recording quality and a great screen (although some prefer the X screen instead) along with a good developing community are the most important factors for you then yes it is the best device for you.

The only other options currently are the HTC one X and S, which have better perceived and build quality, better software (IMO), looks/design (IMO) and in addition to those the S has better battery life and a better processor overall than both the GS 3 (but the GS 3 has a much better GPU) and X, however, you will be able to buy an extended battery for the GS 3, which means it will then be better than the S battery life.

IIRC LG and Motorola have a few devices lined up, which in terms of hardware will be better than the X, GS 3 and S, however, the overall experience may not be as pleasant as the current top end phones especially for software! So really the next top end nexus phone is the only device left for this year, which should be good....

It's not a problem with using it, it works fairly well for a drag and drop style manager. However it's very slow compared to a standard mass storage, and also it can't be assigned a drive letter. Not the end of the world but it means I can't sync the music folder with the one on my computer in the same was as previous phones.

Not the end of the world, but certainly less functional than mass storage mode.

What about the Hayabusa?

Id get it replaced unless you caused the crack yourself. But whether or not its free, id still get it replaced as if in the future you want to sell it, you will lose some value on it.

Should never accept a damaged item even if its free...

I don't think he means free from a shop, but free via other means.
