You can do it using a terminal emulator using CHMOD or by using a file manager with root access like file expert or root manager.
Using root manager but won't let me keep the changes I've made on both sd or ext sd

out of interes. now ive updated the software myself what will happen when i plug into keis?
plus i have have the option to update in my settings. will this keep me up to date?
Now you are on a custom rom you wont be able to update it via Kies or software update. If you went back to stock then you will.
When a new firmware comes out just simply copy it to ur external/internal card and install it from there. Take a few minutes to do and is easy.
Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong, but if Orange release their official rom then copy this to your sdcard and install with odin. Providing you dont wipe ur phone you will keep apps/settings.
Imo I dont think you will gain much, if anything, if you install the orange rom when it comes out.
To be honest with you, if orange ever do get around to releasing jellybean it will be worse then the unbranded one you installed earlier. I don't think a single person would choose a network branded ROM over an unbranded one lol because the former will just have more bloatware on it, nothing more.
It is best to just keep your phone up to date yourself, via Odin. You are currently on the latest stock jellybean, just keep an eye on that link and whenever a newer one appears, update it yourself. Stick to Samsung official unbranded rooms. If you are feeling brave, root the phone, install titanium and remove all the additional stuff you will never need and you move abit closer to pure android. Please don't install an orange branded ROM though, thats just wrong lol.
