***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

To be honest I think a lot of these roms are the same. They all borrow mods and tweaks from each other. It just comes down to ease of use and support to be honest. Any of the roms on xda with a good few hundred thousand views can't be doing much wrong :p

As mrk has gone to the dark side im using benjo as my guru :)

I'll be trying out Ultima rom tonight so I'll let you know how it goes :)

@kona, no it won't change anything, you will still be rooted and have SU permissions.

I was using my Three sim card when I did that speed test so its not LTE speeds but still way faster than my broadband at home!

For those who are asking the S3 LTE doesn't have any branding whatsoever on the phone however it is locked to the EE network.

It might however be unlocked by trying this unlocking procedure

Just dial the following keys *#197328640#

Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy!!! There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successfull.... just reboot your phone....

To test, just insert a sim card from a different carrier/provider. If the new sim card works then your phone is now unlocked.

If not there are a few sellers on eBay that offer unlocking for around £10

Right, I just went wanamlite 5.2 and JBdomination 1.4.5 I think and I'm impressed tbh, its very much like CM10 which it wasn't last time I tried.

However, what I want to complete the look now and partly because I'm completely 100% used to it is the AOSP lockscreen with a single point where you drag from to either unlock or jump straight into google now/camera etc etc.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks!

Edit: Done it, downloaded mod 3 lockscreen off XDA :)

I had my first "oh you muppet" moment the other week, I was using a public computer and was texting my other half at the same time when the woman running the place walked past and looked at my phone and said (you'll like this...):

"That's a big screen, is that an iphone? or is it just a normal mobile?"

I did a mental facepalm and just said it was Android and she wandered off mumbling about not knowing what it was etc...

Made me laugh though so thought I'd share :)

That's bad...some people are so caught up in the world that only Apple make smartphones.

My Mate was in a Supermarket the other day and some bloke came up to him and asked if the S3 he was holding was "Apple Galaxy?"

He gave him a look and walked away!

On another note I've bought the N4 late last week and have been using it, although it's a very good phone something's missing from it to the point that the user experience almost feels "soulless"

I can't put my finger on it but I feel that the S3 brings an all round user experience, little things like Smart Stay and other implementations that Samsung have placed in Touchwiz are just the icing on the cake.

The N4 is better built and looks classy but ergonomically the S3 is better to hold.

Sure the N4 will get all the updates first but Samsung hasn't been slouching on the update front and the latest 4.1.2 premium suite update brings a host of features to the S3 that give an enhanced experience.

Don't get me wrong the N4 is a great phone but I feel that the S3 is just a little bit better.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Did you unlock via *#197328640# method or did you use a ebay code?
