***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Could someone please give me a quick refresher on what I need to do to update my wifes S3.

I bought it from a friend who got it as an unwanted upgrade on Orange (I think), I vaguely remember having to root it using odin then being able to unlock it as she's on ee.

I also have an S3 on EE and it just does over the air updates or I can use kies but hers won't do this, is it because hers is rooted?

Anyway I've had quite a few updates now, to get hers to the latest stock firmware would I just update it again using odin?

Can someone recommend me a new battery for my S3 I9300 please.

Thanks.

Go for the offical extended battery kit if you don't mind a little bit of extra size and weight, the thing just goes and goes. Gets over 6 hours screen time easily.
Either way stick with official batteries, the cheap knock offs are a false economy.

Can some on recommend some good cases for the S3? I have an official rock case at the moment but it's a bit knackered now. I fancy a change so am looking for something else.

What makes should i look out for?

I've got the Nilkin case at the moment. Looks great and it's pretty solid, offers the same protection as the rock quicksand.

I've also been looking at the SPIGEN SGP Modello case, which offers a bit more protection (top and bottom) and it looks awesome.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's a Korean rom on there, not sure how it ended up on an S3 from Orange? (Although you're not sure about that)

just flash the latest one from the Samsung site via Odin and jobs done.

This really, or just grab the latest UK stock firmware over at xda and flash it via Odin.

I had a nightmare when I originally got it to get it unlocked, I think I probably updated it with that rom.

If I updated the firmware would it get locked back on the original network and therefore I'd need to unlock it again?
If so I think I might give it a miss.

Just read the post about the update above and hit the Update button on my unlocked (ie purchased from a shop not a carrier) S3 which I have never rooted and got the message
"Your device had been modified. Software updates are not available"
When I look at the phones status it says Device Status "Modified".

Anyone had this before? I know a lot of you guys are rooted but hopefully someone has come across it and knows how to fix it ?.

UPDATE, I can upgrade via Kies (phew) , also, if I safe mode boot (holding volume down during boot) I get Device status "normal" and can check for updates OTA ? It must be an app or service whihc is running which makes the phone thing I have modifed it, just can't think what it is though.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have just come accross that too whilst googling for an answer, but I can't get it to work on mine. There seems to be plenty of people with the same issue with varying suggestions of what has fixed it for them, none have worked for me so far.

Can any of you that are using the new EMC2 firmware (including the EMC2 bootloader) confirm that the red exclamation mark is no longer visible on boot after rooting?

There is some confusion on xda over this as some are saying it IS the case but others are saying that it can't be... so I thought I'd come and ask the ever-reliable ocuk'ers :)

Well hats off to Three.

I reported my faulty handset to them on Thursday, the return packaging was sent out the following morning (Good Friday) and arrived here on Tuesday. Posted phone back on Tuesday, they got it Wednesday and fixed and returned it the same day and I got it back Thursday.

Only down side it that I made it very clear that it was an unbranded ROM and I wanted it to stay that way, but it came back with a Three branded ROM.
Got EMC2 and upgraded and it's great.

Phone seems much faster than stock 4.0.4.

Three are only going to flash their software - being three, they want you to stay three branded naturally so you can't call that a down side...

Other than that, that's a really reassuring story for us on three :)

I dont use stock but it is gone from Wanamlite 6.4 with the adam 2.2.1 bootloader and EMC2 modem.

This^

Mine was fixed two updates ago.

Anyone know a decent screen repair service?
My mum just dropper her 2 month old white one and cracked the screen.
Shops want 150!

Hi all,

I am looking to buy some new in ear headphones for my S3 as I have been using the official ones since I got the phone and they are a bit knackered now (one ear peice is really quiet no matter what volume level I have).

I have had a look around but have read a few reviews saying that the remotes on the cables on certain head phones don't work on android phones.

If this is the case can you please recomend any brands that will work? I have asked in the sound forum but haven't got any reply.

I'm not looking to spend any more that £50

Anyone managed to blag one of these for free on a £20~ contract? With the S4 almost out i'm think they might wanna shift some stock.
