***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

What's the average battery life on the s3 with heavy usage?

depends what you mean by heavy usage really.

power saving on i usually come home with around 60-70%

power saving off I can get as low as 30%

if im doing a lot of pictures which are needed at work then I sometimes recharge when im at work.

bought the official samsung extended battery pack now so ill see how that gets on

I've started getting issues with mine this week.

Phone randomly freezes within minutes of removing battery and rebooting:

physical buttons do not function
wall paper background continues
status display will continue
sometimes everything will freeze

I'm on omega 36. I'm going to try flashing a new rom to it to see if it makes a difference...

Any recommendations? Omega is doing 4.2 roms now but I've noticed other modders are doing 4.3!
There's way too much information to wade through on these sites, especially if you just rom the phone once every 6 odd months like I do.

edit: screw it ill just try the latest omega

By the sounds of it I'd stick with a 4.1.2 rom. All the 4.2 roms are based off leaked firmware and aren't going to be as solid as 4.1.2. Last I checked there was some overheating issues too.

The 4.3 roms are based on CM10.2, so if you fancy ditching Touchwiz then you can go that route. There's still a few bugs with 4.3 though, mainly how graphics are rendered.

Well, I fully updated to the new omega rom (4.2.2) and I updated cwm from 5 to 6. I also fully formatted the sd cards and wiped the caches etc. My phone is still freezing randomly forcing me to pull out the battery.

I guess its screwed and I need to flash it all to stock to get the warranty service?

I had this issue earlier on in the year. My phone would have been around 9 month old at that point.
I had to send it to CPW for repair, and they tried and failed to fix it so they gave me a new phone.

I'm getting really slow download speeds when I access files from my S3 to my PC over wifi. I get a max of around 700K/s which is painfully slow. Is that normal? I'm accessing my PC via the ES explorer app.

If I do speedtest via the app on wifi I easily reach 40kbps so I know the router (which a superhub 3) is fine.

Turning off wifi power saving can improve things

type in *#0011# and then press the menu button and select wifi, then it press the wifi power saving mode button to turn it off

has helped me in the past.

I bought it without contract and unlocked so it's going to have to go directly to samsung :(

Still in the process of downloading all the stock firmware, everything seems to be hosted on hotfile. What a ball ache.

Well I've completely flashed to stock rom/kernel/bootloader and used a certain program which makes things go away.

No freezes as of yet, wtf.

I had this problem after having mine for a few months. I did a lot of research and it seemed I was not alone. The issue is WiFi related and seems to last around 1-2 weeks for everyone that has the issue and then it just doesn't crash anymore. There isn't really an explanation for it but just stick with it.

So had it on stock for a full day. Absolutely fine. Flashed omega 47, again absolutely fine. Something must have become corrupt at some point.

My friend had the same issue.

Was running Omega and the phone kept freezing. Normally had to restart it or wait 20 mins...

So I wiped all data, cache etc and flashed the latest omega with the same result.

He returned to to stock to RMA but was fine from then on. Rooted again and its been running without a hitch. Very odd!

loving this extended battery pack.

1day 11hours 39minutes and 20s on battery with power saving off.

44% battery still! gonna run it another day!

oh and a new case because my current one no longer fits due to said battery pack

Just got my phone back from CPW and they've replaced the screen.
Can anyone see any reason why this could possibly effect wifi strength? Before I'd be able to get decent(ish) signal in my room but today I can't connect at all unless I'm near the router.

they probably didnt attach anything properly? just a guess

Also,is the latest CM10.1 nightly stable enough to be considered a daily driver, will i loose on sound quality, photographic quality etc?

Looks like my charging port is knackered on my SGSIII :(

Been struggling to charge for a few nights now, tryed different chargers and leads and after a fit where every time I plugged it in to charge S voice and 'Connected to dock' came up, its decided that no charger in the world will fix it now.

Out of warranty by about 3 weeks too :(

Anybody else have this problem? My only options it seems are:

the QI wireless charging mat (but I would have to carry this everywhere I go, no more borrowing peoples chargers on a late night)

Samsung external charger and spare battery. I'd have to leave this on charge every day, swap the batteries over at night, then again in the morning. Seems like such a pain.
