***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

This gets stranger!!!

I managed to flash Philztouch by disabling the reboot option and it worked. I managed to boot up in Philztouch and exited out to make sure the rest of my phone was still working. But when I tried to boot back in to Philztouch it was gone and I've got stock recovery back :(

I'm also still not clear on rooting 4.3, is it a superuser file I install via Philztouch if and when I get it working again?

Where would I find "developer options" in Odin 309?

Settings > More > About device > Build number and tap 7 times on it. This will enable the hidden, “Developer options”, menu when you go back to the, “More”, menu. Open the, “Developer options”, menu and check, “USB debugging”.

Philztouch recovery will allow you to flash roms which will be already rooted.

If you want to root your current rom look for the chainfire root guide.

At last :)

I've got Philztouch working properly, Rooted and USB debugging checked (can't find unknown devices though which Titanium also tells me to check), I've also backed up my personal files :)

Was set on installing Slimkat but also hearing Temasek is really good. I'm basically looking for the cleanest Rom that will give me the least hassle, I'm not going to be flashing on a regula basis!

The Slim kernal is good see how you get on with it before changing, I use the Boeffla Kernal and get a good 24hrs battery life with normal usage, just make sure you turn off WiFi and location services when your not using them or your battery will drain quick. Also under advanced settings in WiFi turn off always search for netowkrms ejm WiFi is off as this drains battery.

It's all up and running, looks and feels very slick :)

Installed latest Slimkat, Gapps and Camera fix

I opted for Google Now as launcher, got no experience of Nova but I just wanted to keep it as stock Android as possible.

Thanks for the tips on this thread everyone. I installed SlimKat on my S3 yesterday and its much smoother than CM10 which although much better than stock was starting to labour a bit and make me hanker after a new handset. If this ROM continues to be as slick as it is now I'll be sticking with my S3 for while but on a much cheaper tariff when my contract ends next week.

Before I start trawling through XDA I wonder if anyone can answer this question.

My phone = Galaxy S3 rooted and running SlimKat
My network = T mobile

Basically I am at the end of my contract and have elected to leave T mobile and go to Virgin sim only for the time being. It saves me £18 a month.

I am guessing that my handset is locked to T mobile at present and despite Virgin using that network I am assuming that my new SIM will not work initially?
there are a few resources around the interweb indicating free ways to unlock your phone but as yet I can't get one to work on the phone running a custom ROM. Including the method detailed here

http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Blog/Unlock-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-free/ba-p/7799058

and the Play Store app GalaxySimUnlock by Spocky.

I quick browse of XDA last night suggested that I may have to roll back to a stock rom in order to unlock. Anyone else had experience of similar. Thanks

Since installing Slimkat on my S3 my battery is lasting twice as long and it feels like a new phone :)

So I've decided I'm not going to bother upgrading next month and stick with my S3 a while longer. I'm currently with Three on the one plan. I'm very happy with Three so would like to go with their sim only deal which I think is £12.90 PM. I do actually do the odd bit of tethering, nothing major. Can I still tether on this new plan? If not then what's the best sim only deal for data and tethering ?

Guys whats the best way of transferring everything from one microSD to another? Upgrading from 2gb to 32gb.

I am also going to be installing a new ROM as Im still running on stock (after 2 years still :o) so should probably do both at the same time?

ES File Explorer to copy 2GB data from 2GB SDcard to internal memory then on to the new 32GB SDcard.

then follow the above guide for flashing a new rom and your laughing!

Thanks, copied files to new SD card fine.

Had a look at your guide but a couple of things - Boeffla Kernel - there are quite a few versions on that link, how do I know which one to download? Also the link to the slimkat gapps thing requires a login?

Thanks.

Boeffla Kernal, Use the newest one so Beta 3 NO CAM FIX as its already included in Temaseks ROM.

Slim Gapps, on the left side of the page click on Downloads > Addons > Minimal Gapps and your job done. (will update top link for this one :) )
