***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

I am still liking my SGS3 but last few months it has been getting slower and slower to respond. I have a rooted one running revolution hd 51 (4.3) but when i unlock and go to do something it will sit for ~5 seconds before responding. Am I best to change rom, if so what should I go for? I don't mind it being stock android either by the way.

I believe the answer is no. As you need Samsung drivers for that, only found from an official based Rom. But you can get different camera apps from the market if you really don't like aosp camera, try Google camera for example.

Amazing isn't it! Just the simple stuff like opening the dialer which took forever on a Samsung Rom now happens as soon as you press the icon. Super fast and smooth scrolling, and much better memory handling imo, not had any slow downs at all. The only thing I miss is good flash support :-( it works with dolphin browser but only just! Can be quite choppy at times.

But with how great my S3 is now, I'm in no rush to worry about upgrading.

Since installing Slimkat on my S3 about a month ago, I've experienced maybe 4 or 5 what I would call "soft" reboots. They occur at random, with seemingly no common link between them. I call it a "soft" reboot because the Slimkat logo appears on the screen, and fades on and off like it does when I first turn the phone on, but when I reach the home screen I don't have to enter the SIM unlock pin which I have set. There are no apps in the Recents menu though so there is definitely some form of rebooting going on.

Has anyone else experienced this issue/know anything about it? I'm not really sure what to terms to use when searching so haven't really found much at the moment.

Yep its a soft reboot brought on by a stack over flow most likely, the same problem that plagues nearly all 4.4.* android roms. Its in the process of being fixed.

Ive recently moved over to SlimKat from Temasek as I was unhappy with the way Temaseks ROM development was going, to much rebasing and changing his mind as to the path he want to follow.

It will take some getting use to thats for sure.

It's not so much 'changing his mind' as to changing direction based on how things were performing. You have to remember that he's combining factors from loads of different roms and attempting to get them to all play nicely together in one package.

If this is not the case and there is a conflict then he removes the offending party and awaits a fix from the original dev or adds something similar but from a different source.

I'll sing praises Temasek's ROM all day long - I've been on a Temasek variant since CM10.1 and I'm currently on build 104 of CM11

I've tried others like slim, neat etc so I'm not being naive about this - but it genuinely is the best ROM I've used on my S3 ever. simples. The other half is happy as Larry with it on hers too :) (That said, she was 'happy' with the stock 4.0.4 that it shipped with lol)

I agree completely but just having trouble with the latest ROMs. Since Tema no longer tests them on his s3 the quality of the ROM has gone down hill. :(

Tried to get v103 working when I came back from my honeymoon but it just would not play ball crashing ever 2 mins and boot looping. I'm going to make a nandroid of my Slimkat install and try v105 when thats out.

you are wiping the cache partion along with the dalvik cache? My only issue with the current releases is the battery usage it is horrendous or it could be just my battery is done in. When I`m at work I have profiles setup so that wifi and gps is off. Certainly get better battery performance doing that.

Yeah always wipe cache, preload and dalvik even when dirty flashing. Full wipe from slimkat and v105 is working fine! God knows what happened. From what I was reading on the Slim forums there was a bootloader update that I must have missed in Temaseks updates that Slim must have installed and its all good now. :)

I've updated on every Temasek release and not faced any issues with crashes etc so far (currently on v105).

Regarding battery drain I always set my GPS to use device GPS only, using wifi etc to improve accuracy increases battery drain.

The other night I left my phone off charge and according to better battery stats it discharged at 0.9% an hour with wifi connected and gps on.
