**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S10 Family Thread ****

Is it much more bang for buck? Aside from rear telephoto lens, 0.3inch larger screen (which is curved) and screen resolution (which at this display size is barely noticeable) it's the same phone in a smaller and cheaper package.

Well used/auction site there isn’t much difference in price. Probably £50 if that. I’m just not sold on the curved edge screen.

Sadly I’m one of those who prefers to have things “incase” I use it one day rather than not have the option at all.

I'm glad I went for the s10e. Like some of you, I got fed up of having a massive phone. I owned a Oneplus 5t prior to this and I never forgot it was in my pocket, plus wearing a pair of trousers with small pockets (such as jeans) would cause the phone to jab me in the hip when I sat down. Plus it was annoying that it didn't have wireless charging or a proper IP certification, two things Oneplus seriously need to sort out imo.

Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE work on EE. So chuffed!

That's great to hear! Next year I might switch to EE if the deal is right, for now VM offers the best 4G only package for me with lots of data but knowing VoLTE and WiFi calling works on EE will certainly sway the scales this time next year when I'm looking to switch.

So is it worth going for a snapdragon version or the exynos is decent too?
I thought about ordering the Snapdragon but then realised I couldn't be bothered and just ordered the Exynos from Samsung.

It's absolutely fine and I don't know what I'm missing so it doesn't bother me. I think any differences will be fairly negligible in day to day use.

I'd say in performance the difference would be negligible. However I'd be interested to see real world battery life stats between the SD and Exynos - I'd imagine the SD is more efficient but that's just my hunch.

I've found that it's essentially based within the bottom half of the phone. I've essentially turned the phone the opposite way around and towards the terminal and I've had 100% success since I've done so.
I tried the bottom half of the phone at my local filling station and it worked straight away so I thought that could well be it. Then tried the exact same part of the phone at roughly the same angle at Asda (other major supermarkets are available :p) and no dice. It really seems to be pot luck. Unless the corresponding NFC chip is in different positions depending on the terminal manufacturer?

Reasonable video on the performance aspects.

I suppose that could be to do the terminal placement too...I suppose I always have my Skagen Smart watch for Google Pay too, that's a lot simpler :p

exynos 9820 runs @2700mhz highest clock speed the snapdragon 855 runs @2840mhz highest clock speed so of course it will be better if samsung clocked the exy at same speed the different wouldn't be seen imo

Quite possibly that's the case but to give you some contex, I moved to this handset from an S9 and can confirm that the battery life is much better.

Major camera update coming April/May, with dedicated night mode to rival Pixel 3 (speculation).

Good stuff indeed. If they also add back pro mode video recording, we have a winner.

Interesting. Though the night mode could just be something you can select now instead of only availble in low light. Thus the quality will just be the same as your getting now, but just an option to select it manually. Let's hope that's not the case.

No it will be a specific mode just like night sight that you select that works just light night sight. It's a major camera update with algorythm changes according to this info, not just a movement of the night mode to a dedicated area to select instead of relying on scene optimiser currently which auto selects night mode in the dark.

Given how good the google camera night sight works on the S10 snapdragon version from my usage so far, and how low noise samsung's night mode is (even if it isn't as bright as night sight), I fully expect Samsung's proper night sight mode to be up there with the pixel 3 but neither can touch the P30 Pro due to the RYYB sensor and larger sensor combination.

Update....

After downloading the update, you'll find a new Night mode in the camera app. This is the exact same Bright Night feature, but it can now be used whenever you want. It's unclear why something like this wasn't available from day one, but we're happy to see it make an appearance nonetheless.

Some youtubers said the Exynos battery life is very bad so they got the Snapdragon variant

That's a very poor source of info.

Tens of thousands of the exynos have been sold, the battery is absolutely fine, great in fact. Mine is about the same if not better than my note 9.

I'd say it's definitely not worth the risks and potential pitfalls of imported stock etc. Seriously, it's a beast.

The size convenience of the e is just great for me. I'd never get a phone that was huge again given that the S10e's screen is still a decent 5.8". It's just way easier to use one handed as well which I'm liking now after all these years of 6"+ phones.

Sounds a bit purchase justificationy. S10 is easy to use with one hand unless you're 8:p

So was my S8+, I never had a complaint about it but like I said above, it's the extra convenience that just makes it much easier to do so.
