**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S10 Family Thread ****

Won't you struggle with LTE band support with an American phone?

Depends on the Bands they support...for example a SIM Free iPhone bought in the USA has full band support. I'm not sure how it is in the case of USA Samsung handsets, but of course looking them to non network locked would be a start.

There are plenty of issues, things like the software version might not be the UK one, you might not get things like samsung pay if you want them, you might not get the correct bands, you certainly won't get the proper support/warranty (yes a site might say they'll give you a warranty, the question is do you trust them) etc etc.

Some of this might not matter to you, similarly you might end up with what's called a "modified" version, ie they've flashed it with an EU/UK/BTU software version so it could potentially work fine etc.. it's a risk basically, you need to balance whether you're game and the saving is enough. Just don't be ignorant about the whole thing, it's not like for like.. just nearly like for like.

I guess the final point is if it's shipped from outside the UK you might even end up being smacked with a customs charge.

So I know they leave you high and dry if you buy it from those HK type of reseller places online, but would they still deny your warranty here if you bought it directly from an official Samsung store in USA?

Might be going on a holiday around the time Note 10 is released and they always have far better discounts over there.

I'd guess you've got a much better chance of sympathy of some description, I believe there's a global warranty so yes I'd worry less.

Part of the issue with the resellers like eglobal is that they'll have bought either from retail or distribution somewhere globally so Samsung have little trace of the thing. Buying it from Samsung directly is potentially a different story.

That said, if you buy from Samsung in the states then it will absolutely have a proper US software version and if you flash it you'll invalidate the warranty.

Always worth bearing in mind there's sales tax in the US. The prices you see are effectively ex vat, frustrating but they never show the total price.

I bought from eblobal just now. S10+ Exynos version 128GB.

I'll take the risk - been lucky so far with phones and even if i'm not.....whoops it fell from a great height by accident and needs replacing

Yeah I lived over there for almost 2 years, that tax thing sure was annoying! You can always try and "minimise" your state tax if you order it online and have it shipped to the right state ;)

I do also know people over there who get corporate discounts through their workplace so could potentially save a pretty sum.

Don't need to do anything like that. My S10e is from HK and all I did was put my Virgin mobile SIM in and it worked right away. I think all this locking nonsense is isolated to US market on some devices.

+1 I agree with Robbie, you don't have to mess with the phone. I put both my EE and Smarty (3 network) sims into my S10E from Hong Kong and it worked straight away and was region unlocked out of the box.

Did you guys get them from HK yourselves, or from a retailer who sells foreign phones? I've read somewhere that retailers open the boxes and use the phones to call to break the region lock before selling.

Most people are buying from eGlobal or Toby deals which I believe is the same company. My phone came factory sealed.

OTA Update just hit my HK S10e!

Also, love this type of wallpaper :D

Mine had the factory seal still on the box, it was a completely factory stock device that had no sign of use.

I bought mine from a retailer I have been using for years and where I import my phones from if the need arises.

Mine was factory sealed and came with an official UK Samsung charger.

So what's the crack with the latest night mode update mrk? Is it Pixel levels of awesome?

I don't know as I only received the update a hour ago will probably test it tonight.

Looking at the various YouTube vids that are floating about it does make a slight difference but not overwhelmingly so.

I'll compare tonight, there's a big bright thing in the sky at the mo :p

I'm also using the latest Gcam 6.2 which doesn't support the xml import for correct S10 settings. The Night Sight images are noisier than before but still brighter and with a bit more detail. I'd say Bright Night isn't far off now really, samsung cam still renders street lights and light sources better though/

My paperwork cupboard it is then :p

Original with Samsung camera in normal mode (HDR set to always on):

I think Samsung's night mode produces a more natural tone compared to Gcam, at least in this example anyway. I'll compare again inside/outside at night as this is where this mode will be more useful.

Gcam night sight retains a bit more detail though as it uses less compression/smoothing.

Got my s10e. Getting used to the screen coming from an iPhone 7 plus but the move has been trouble free. Impressed so far.
