**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S23 Family Thread ****

im also trying to update phone with some good new apps ive never used before any suggestions for daily apps I should try out

Acode as a text viewer/editor cos Samsung doesn't seem to have one?
AdGuard as an ad blocker.
NewPipe as an ad-less Youtube alternative.
Moon Reader Pro as a PDF reader.
AnExplorer Pro as a file explorer.
CCleaner as a temp files cleaner.

I think some of these are paid but I got them as APK files on the net.

Been testing loads of apps on the S23U, haven't even put a SIM card in it despite having it since the 7th.

If anyone has any more then recommend.

Also does anyone know if there is an option to zoom in when manual focusing with the Samsung camera?

Those green highlights are useless if you it's not zoomed in when focusing on distant objects.

Samsung cameras used to do it pre-S7 era but they got rid of it with an update.

Why would you need zoom when focusing on distant subjects? Distant subjects will be in focus using infinity focus anyway and the lens/sensor combo are too small to not get distant subjects in focus anyway as long as the green highlights cover that area of the frame denoting that they are in focus.

Theoretically but in practice they come out blurred. Distance objects = across the room not across the horizon where infinity focus will work.

My Panasonic zooms 6x digitally when manual focusing so why not the Samsung? It helps with taking artistic photos as well. I often zoom-focus then pan to another position and snap afterwards.

That's what I mean though, the optics are too small for it to be a real issue unless you are actually getting misfocusing due to shake or something else. The issue mostly presents itself on telephoto lenses on standalone cameras like DSLRs etc - On a phone camera the zoom lens itself is higher aperture anyways but you would still see the effect slightly, but nothing that's noticeable in day to day use. The wide lens is too wide for this to be an issue. Can you post an example of how your images are coming out?

For ref, I have never experienced this issue, and shoot landscapes and distant subjects like buildings or animals often.

Also, unrelated to photos but worth pointing out still as people have been looking at 45W chargers, you also need a cable that supports 45W, it was mentioned briefly already but worth repeating. The cable that comes with the phone only supports up to 25W, so if you have a PPS 45W charger, you will only see "Super Fast Charging" displayed when charging. It needs to say 2.0 at the end so you know it's all working at 45W. The colour of the ring that animates when first plugging in is also blue when 45W, light greenish when 25W and green when just normal fast or slow charging.

For ref, I got the Anker 313 45W charger this week, and already had the Anker 333 100W supported cable.

For those who use Samsung Pay often, have you had many instances of it failing to work in places where contactless is accepted? More so if you've used Google Pay in the past be interesting to read about your experiences.

Tempted by the Samsung Pay card but still on the fence a bit

Neither Google Pay nor Samsung Pay has ever failed where it should work - Unless the terminal itself is down, which does happen in rare instances. I've been using both since they've existed.

Seems to be a fair few complaining of WiFi issues over on Reddit. Noticed the odd article too mentioning it. All seems to be tied to WiFi 6.

Apparently Samsung are aware and they're looking to resolve it in an upcoming update.

I don't think they do one for S23+
Don't think they do but the same company make a non-UV version, got one for my wife's S23 and it's pretty good.

IMBZBK [4+4 Pack] for Samsung Galaxy S23 Screen Protector Tempered Glass

Edit - ooops, sorry missed the +.

I've had this with wifi6, although it seems better than it was. Still happens sometimes though, hopefully the update will fix it. Never happened with my S21U.

thanks other than the basics and some apps ive been using for years ive not added anything new or replaced them so I thought it was time to see whats available.

I was considering a add blocker does it work on apps and youtube ? also does the free version work find or do you need to buy the paid model ?
ill try Moon Reader ive been using adobe
also does samsung not have a built in cleaner ?

is lightroom still the best editor ?

eft 5G on last night and thought I'd see where o2 picks up 5G as can't get it in my home town and I was at work in office today (Portsmouth naval base area) - Lo and behold got 5G soon as I got to the ferry to get over to Portsmouth and all across the waterside.

But what about speeds? 15-45Mbps

Great

4G+ is 2-3Mbps

Glad I'm going back to EE this week.

Been around the block but have stuck with EE, get the best speeds and service from them out of the bunch.

Getting around 250Mbps from inside the house and once outside hits 400Mbps quite comfortably, for 120gb/£12pm it's going to be hard to beat anytime soon.

In other news, I continue to be blown away by battery life and more importantly the standby performance. This is easily a two day phone for me and even under heavy use I can get 8-10 hours SoT before charging.

10-100% in about 1 hour with Super Fast Charging 2.0, sublime!

How did you get the uncapped 120GB package for £12 a month? I take it that's 24 months?

I just got my SIM today and at £20 a month for 125GB data, 12 months though as cba with 24 month plans. It's capped at 100Mbps but you often get above that, 137Mbps is not uncommon in speed tests etc but typically 117Mbps. More than enough for media, hotspot etc etc.

Yeah it's a 24m contract.

My mate signed up last year (it was posted on HUKD) but by the time I got around to it the offer expired, however I rang them up and they offered me the same deal.
