I suppose knowing that no other provider can beat them for speed and consistency means a 24month plan isn't a huge issue, especially at £12 a month! Looks like I will keep an eye on HUKD in 12 months time :p

Yeah definitely a no brainer, nobody else came close to offering that package.

That being said, I'm expecting a price increase (inflation etc) soon on that plan so no doubt it'll go up a couple quid :D

In other news, signed up for Samsung Pay+ today, expecting the physical card sometime next week.

Fairly simple enough process, cards all linked in Curve app, just waiting for the physical card now.

Be sure to enable the cashback offers for various shops like Morrisons etc in the Curve app. Quite good deals on like 5% cashback etc.

I wish 5G had better coverage around here, but it's just too patchy to have it enabled in the mobile settings as the phone desperately tries to hang on to a rubbish 5G signal, when 4G is available and is plenty fast enough for normal use and way more consistent.

I've just done a quick 4G/5G speed comparison, I'm upstairs in the house it's 10pm and I've got good signal for both 4G & 5G. I'm on BT mobile (same as EE).

4G is 194Mbps
5G is 231Mbps

But if go roaming, only locally, 5G will drop off very quickly.

Is that 5G on EE or another network? Seems in the last year EE have massively improved 5G coverage down here in the SOuth. I recall having to need to move the phone (S22 Ultra then) closer to a window to pick up 5G, whereas now I am sat here on 5G and the signal noise levels are considerably more favourable than even 4G+

Quick comparison:

4G+ vs 5G on EE and 4G+ on O2 right now:

-65 dBm is pretty damn efficient, in this context the phone battery is used less as a result of the cell radio not having to work so hard. I will flick between both 4G and 5G when out and about and see if that stays consistent, if it does, then I think I will just leave 5G on all the time from here on.

I'm not familiar with what makes a good dBm signal, but I'm currently showing -99dBm on 5G, with three consecutive speed tests done over 300Mbps.

My sim is with BT mobile (has been for years), I believe they own EE and so its the same network. I might leave 5G turned on for now and see how it goes, but when I had my S22 Ultra it wasn't worth leaving on due to patchy coverage around here.

-99 is very high! The closer to 0 the better and more efficient the radio will be working basically because the reception is plentiful. My EE plan is capped at 100Mbps so can't really test more than that until my SIM fully activates with my ported number etc and I can then go and enable the Go Faster addon for £2 for the month (unlocks the unlimited speed cap). I suspect I will see 700Mbps+ like I was last year.

That's a crazy speed, I doubt very much we've got that sort of performance round these parts :)

I'm not aware of any cap on my plan, I just requested 5G be enabled from BT when my S22 Ultra arrived last year. I pay £17/month for 80GB rolling contract. I don't think I come anywhere near that usage figure, as I'm normally on the WiFi during evenings.

It's worth putting some context to that. Zero is impossible, the base stations can't even transmit with an SNR good enough to get even close to that, even if your phone was within an inch of the transmitter. The best most people will see in the real world is probably about -50 dBm, and practically even that is quite rare. While -99 dBm isn't the strongest signal ever, I'm not sure I'd call it very high either. You can see the phone still reports 3/4 bars signal, and still achieves good transfer speeds. It's a pretty average level of signal as most networks conditions go. Most phone run into problems once signal level drops to over -113 dBm. Keeping in mind this is a log scale, -99 dBm is still over a 3 times stronger signal than that (aka, it's not too bad!)

With a 5G signal on Three @ >-101 dBm I was able to do 705 Mbps on an S22U. Sub 6 5G really holds up.

Oh yeah the speed isn't dictated by the signal noise levels, it just means the radio is working harder to maintain that signal, and as such the battery is draining faster, hence why the closer to 0 it is the more efficient, even if 0 is always going to be impossible. I've seen in the past it go as low as around -35dBm but this was long before the massive subscription levels we have nowadays.

In most cases 5G will give a harder time on the battery life, but on networks where 5G coverage is vastly improved now that it's lower dBm than 4G, this may no longer be the case as a result of that. Be interesting to see in my case especially as I have the 100Mbps capped plan, so no matter what on 4G+ or 5G, it will always be around the 100-150Mbps mark on sustained download or streams effectively giving a good baseline speed to compare against 5G on the same network which so far is "cleaner" - Until more people start getting phones that do 5G of course.

Anyone using a fast wireless charger with their S23 Ultra? If so which ones? Looking for something that can charge phone, watch and buds

I bought this one that mrk recommended earlier in this thread, and it charges very quickly, although I didn't have a proper cable to enable Super Duper 2.0 charging, so that had to go on the shopping list as well. Ain't Amazon Prime great :D

Ignore.. Just realised you wanted Wireless, Doh!

Ah yeah, I have a ugreen 100w charger that gives me the Galactus 2.0 super speed already but would be nice to have a fast wireless charging station for the phone, watch and buds.

May have to opt for this combo:

I thought the phone only goes up to 15W for wireless? Interesting use of the word 'fast' when you have proprietary >50W wireless chargers on the market.

Mind you I like the look of the Spigen one above, slick. Might get one as a top up charger for work.

Hhhmm so much for switching networks for better signal. Sky/O2 seems about the same as my previous 3 sim.
That's why I left three 2 years ago having been with them since day 1 for years and witnessing the downfall because they subscribe too many customers!

EE is seemingly the only network that seems to be consistently excellent now.

I have a Choetech dual 18W fast wireless pad and it seems to work great. No fan like the Samsung one and low profile too. My model is not sold any more but a similar one is something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-C...sprefix=dual+fast+wireless,aps,69&sr=8-9&th=1

I have the Samsung Charger Trio that I got with my S22U, still works a charm with the S23U, Watch and buds.
