*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

But in all thos esituations answering a phone would be pointless anyway and in a meeting/library you'd have the phone on silent anyway or off so as not to disturb others. Vibrate mode is just an audible buzzing sound that can be annoying especially when people slap their phones in meetings on the desk and it vibrates louder than a ringtone itself!

Fair points and I concede you were specifically talking about the answering a call feature. My post was more about voice commands versus air gestures in general.

Once again, they could have made the mini version so much better but instead they gimp it down big time (no doubt every thing else will be cut down) , no doubt it will still sell millions though.

Totally depends on price. If it's priced well then it could be a great low to mid range offering. qHD is still a respectable res on a more budget orientated phone and with Jelly Bean too it could be a compelling offering. I know the Nexus 4 has the £200-£300 price bracket but the problem is that it is just too big for some people.

You just know it won't be priced well though :p :o GS 3 mini was priced at £330+ when released and the gs 2 was a much better device.

Whilst qHD is a decent res. it is dated now especially with 1080P becoming the norm, 720P should be the lowest res. nowadays.

I suppose Samsung doesn't want this to be competing with the gs 3 though so they will have to keep the specs below it :(

So many people would kill for a top end 4.3" (720P res. SLCD 2/3 or SAMOLED, great battery life etc.) android device.

Shame that there is nothing coming out to replace the one s

1080P is hardly the norm, it's cutting edge and reserved for the flagships :p

Yeah you're probably right they'll most likely price it in the most uncompetitive way possible.

A non-pentile 720P 4.2" SAMOLED screen, 2GB RAM, a decent CPU and reasonable battery life and I'm happy :p. Oh and Jelly Bean.

I said is "becoming" the norm :p

720P has been around for nearly 2 years now, first device to have it was the galaxy nexus.

I am guessing that it will be around £350-380

Yup, sadly it is purposefully nerfed to reduce competition with current and previous flagships. I got really excited when I clicked the article as I had been fantasizing about a smaller device with decent specs, but then I came back down to earth with a bump. Sigh.

As the UK has been confirmed to getting both versions does anyone know if they will be carrier specific? I've heard Three are more likely to have the Exynos?

Funniest thing I've read for a while :D The SV isn't even running Jellybean.

Maybe not on your network, but there is an official Jellybean RUU available if you look for it.

It's a much nicer device than the One S, especially the screen. I'm also basing my views on actual medium term use of both devices by my better half who doesn't like bigger phones - she prefers the SV in pretty much every respect.

Currently on GiffGaff at the moment with the S3. Will probably pick this up when it becomes available on 3 as LTE will be without a premium. Anyone know when 3 will launch LTE? Googled, but found no specific information..

Whilst it might be SLCD 2, the res. is old now, one S is qHD (it might not look any sharper due to pentile pixel arrangement but you get more screen real estate) and I personally prefer SAMOLED anyway and then other things aren't as good as the S i.e. perceived quality, design (IMO), better CPU chipset overall iirc (not that it matters too much anyway), not sure on battery life. But the rest seems to be more or less the same.

Essentially it isn't really an "upgrade", more of a "sidegrade" imo.

SD and 4G isn't important to me.

Fair enough Nexus18, I guess it depends what you are looking for. Side by side the SV screen does look noticeably better to me due to the pentile screen of the S as you mention.

The matching ones look quite good.

Don't forget the cheaper 5MP camera, cheaper/slower NAND, larger chassis (67mm wide and 9.2mm thick! Almost the same as the "One") etc
Sure I'd take the LCD over that grainy pentile AMOLED but why isn't it qHD or 720p?
It's a cheaper device for HTC to make, there's no two ways about it. We want a proper 4.3" phone upgrade, not some recycled austerity phone that's surprisingly expensive.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini could be good if a) the screen isn't pentile b) it's a cortex A15/Krait SoC c) has 2GB RAM and d) gets first class support.

I'll be back on iPhones if nothing else comes out towards the end of this year (or a Z10 if it has a playbook style price reduction :p)
